'Twas low-hanging fruit. :giggle:

FB's decision in this regard is unsettling. They, along with a select few other sites, are without question the 21'st century's version of "the press" (as understood by folks in the early 1900s, during the newspaper consolidation era), and essentially resemble a de-facto monopoly, of the sort that the Department of Justice used to care about.

Braineack 03-31-2018 01:55 PM

I like they they care more about censoring the right, than their tool being utilized for terrorism:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/30/t...aked-memo.html

In the memo, Andrew Bosworth, a Facebook vice president, wrote, “Maybe someone dies in a terrorist attack coordinated on our tools. And still we connect people. The ugly truth is that we believe in connecting people so deeply that anything that allows us to connect more people more often is *de facto* good.”
connecting people...so long are they aren't conservatives.

and this is why i disagree with you Joe, about all the "net positives" in the SF bans. Who are you to say what's *de facto* good?

I'm afraid I can't remember what "SF" is in this context.

As a whole, I tend to associate the following concepts with "the de-facto good":
  • Increases the sum total of individual liberty
  • Decreases the sum total of human misery
Sadly, these two ends are sometimes in conflict with regard to means.

That's just pedantry. The money the gubmint pays your employer still comes from the taxpayers.

In reality, I don't care I just like to give you a hard time about it.

Braineack 04-01-2018 04:03 PM

there's a huge difference though.

I can get fired. I have to do work. I'm not over-paid. Im not guaranteed step-level increases. I have a co-pay with insurance and then im billed more later. I cant get a pension. etc etc etc.

in general, ive noticed most govt employees to be lazy, slow, inefficient, and ineffective. Not surprisingly:

Federal workers with a high school diploma or less earned a 34 percent more in wages than those in the private sector, 93 percent more in benefits and 53 percent more in total compensation.

However, federal employees with a professional or doctorate degree earned 24 percent less in wages than their colleagues in the private sector, while the cost of benefits was about the same. Added together, total compensation for these workers with advanced degrees was about 18 percent less than those in the private sector.
people will no education and simple paper pushing jobs working 20+ years end up in lead roles eventually. It's not exactly fun working for them. My new contract, however, seems to have a much much better gene pool.

Glad to see the UN is cracking down on slavery. Only took them over 100 years!

The history of slavery in the United States justifies reparations for African Americans, argues a recent report. The conclusion was part of a study by the United Nations’ Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent.

“The legacy of colonial history, enslavement, racial subordination and segregation, racial terrorism and racial inequality in the United States remains a serious challenge…” the report stated. “Contemporary police killings and the trauma that they create are reminiscent of the past racial terror of lynching.”

The reparations could come in a variety forms, according to the panel, including a “formal apology, health initiatives, educational opportunities… psychological rehabilitation, technology transfer and financial support, and debt cancellation.”

Daddy Trump needs to stop paying the UN and kick them out of NYC.

Suddenly it all makes sense.

I now understand why you have such a bitter attitude towards practically everything.

I'm just gonna put this out there: you might try working the private sector. Yeah, I have to deal with union BS, but the difference is that the unions here have woken up to the reality of the 21st century, and devised ways of dealing with slackers who habitually make them look bad.

Being the boss in a commercial union shop is a serious hemorrhoid-level situation most of the time, but I at least have ways to dispense with dead weight.

“NOBODY’S COMING FOR YOUR GUNS”
Editorial by Kevin Ryan

Barack Obama used to famously mock gun rights advocates with a sneering dismissal of their fears that things like gun registries and background checks were preludes to bans and confiscations. “Nobody’s coming for you guns,” was an oft-repeated mantra of Obama and gun control advocates. “We just want sensible gun laws.”
...
Fast forward to 2018, and wow, how things have changed. The national discussion on gun control has taken a major turn away from proposing “common sense gun laws” and toward demanding outright bans, confiscations, and even overturning our constitutional right to bear arms.

A lot of people are saying “I told you so” right now. But nobody should be surprised by the abrupt turnabout. It’s not the first time politicians and pundits have abandoned their positions seemingly overnight.

Democrats just a couple years ago were tough on illegal immigration. Now they are doing everything in their power to make sure it continues.

Republicans one election cycle ago ran on reining in the ballooning debt and government spending. Yet now they are trumpeting their newly passed budget expansion as a major success.

And both parties not long ago promised to preserve the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman. Today, not so much.

No matter where you stand on those issues, the point is that promises from either side are worthless in politics. And now we’ve got a retired Supreme Court Justice, a DNC Vice Chairwoman, the media, and much of America’s indoctrinated youth confirming our long-held suspicions.

Yes, they are coming for your guns.

Initially, Australia and Western Europe, based on the signs. This map suggests that northern Africa and the Orient are better targets, based on the desire to reduce both gun ownership and homicide.

I heard it's really nice over there if you're a dictator or Junta and then dearm everyone.

in the rest of the world, they don't need guns to murder people so why does the US need them?! - every aussie ever.
