You mean that Democrat politicians want to lower the voting age to 16 because they know damned well that most 16/17 yrold children will vote exactly how their left-leaning progressive teachers tell them to.

Samantha Gladu, executive director of the youth grassroots organization Bus Project, said 16- and 17-year-olds are engaged and smart enough to cast informed votes."They know that we have to take action urgently on issues like education funding, health care, climate justice and gun violence in particular," Gladu said. "I'm also hearing a lot from 16- and 17-year-olds about the need for criminal justice reform and the need to stop mass incarceration."

In Oregon, Portland carries the state and everybody else is along for the ride. ****, Bernie crushed Hillary in the primaries there. Both Senators and 5/6 Congressmen are Democrats, and they hold strong majorities in both State Houses. Texas is headed in this same direction.

Multnoma County (Portland) Presidential Votes
Hillary 292,561
Trump 67,954

Lesbians more likely to be overweight as experts find sexuality is linked to health

Lesbian and bisexual women are more likely to be overweight than heterosexual women, research has shown for the first time, as experts said sexual identity should now be viewed as a health risk factor.

Researchers at the University of East Anglia studied 12 British national health surveys involving more than 93,000 people which recorded body mass index (BMI) and sexuality and found a striking link between weight and sexual orientation.

This is appropriate in either this thread or the political one.

Take this, for instance: https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/...ere-not-amused

TL;DR: Baker in Washington (state) makes cookies each year around Valentine's day which resemble giant versions of those horrid, chalk-like little candies that have a word or phrase on them. They tend to be a bit silly. This year, he made one cookie which said "Build that wall." And, predictably, he's now suffering.

Actual things people have written or said in response:

“A cookie like this does represent that there is some hate coming out this bakery, whether he chooses to admit it or not.”

“Hatred and racism is NOT a joke. Not even on a cookie, If you say it was a ‘mistake’, it shows us who you are to your core — a racist. If you truly weren’t a racist you would have never even made that cookie or thought it would be a joke.”

“Really Edmonds Bakery? Really?! Your racism is so ‘cute’. Lost my business.”

Also, signs suggesting that the town boycott the bakery. And threats. The usual.

Respondeth the baker:

“Some are a little risqué, some are nice. I try to be funny. If I wanted to make a political statement, I'd put it on a sign. And march up and down the street. But I put it on a cookie for heaven's sake."

This might seem like an over-reaction. That was my initial thought. But now I understand that these people do not perceive writing "build that wall" on a cookie as a harmless, flippant joke. They genuinely believe that it represents the baker's actual political opinion, and that, in turn, means that the baker is functionally indistinguishable from Hitler.

(I think I'm clear on Godwin's Law here. I am not making a comparison to Hitler, I am pointing out the fact that other people have done so.)

So, yeah. Within a few generations, I expect that the concept of humor will have all but disappeared from American English.
Experienced this first hand. I'm in my 30s. This isn't fun. And it's going to suck. We'll go full circle to me going through the black market to see skits from Eddie Murphy, Pryor, and more recently Russell Peters (canada skit before he got big). Hell, Season 1 of the Office is probably going to get banned.

Just wait a year or two and "The Big Bang Theory" episodes will be considered extreme right wing racist sexist comedy.

I just thought of a good one:

Implementing socialist / communist policies in the US is a form of cultural appropriation.

Serious question.

To take public office, you have to swear to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." Every political office and even military service requires this oath This is something that historically set the USA apart -- as our public offices require allegiance to a set of ideals rather than a person or entity.

Now . . . how are people like AOC -- who fundamentally does not believe in individual property rights -- eligible for public office? They can't actually swear that oath.

The problem is that the constitution does not actually preclude the US from becoming a communist state. So long as it occurs with the consent of the governed (eg: by way of our elected representatives), we can fully embrace Marxism while still remaining within the boundaries of the constitution.

Was this the founders' intent? Hard to know. Obviously, the fundamental concept of present-day communism was unknown in the 1700s.

As I read it, it does. The 5th Amendment explicitly protects private property, which is a concept that would be abandoned under true Communism. Classic socialism is the transfer of the means of production to the state. I don't think Bernie or AOC have "just compensation" in mind.

This is one of the issues with getting China to enforce intellectual property rights, since those are a form of private property. It is fundamentally at odds with their philosophy of government.

Where that gets murky is the phrases "without due process of law" and "without just compensation".

And, to be clear, I'm not the guy arguing in favor of communism. I'm the guy who comes from a family which has experienced its genesis, and who doesn't view it as something which "could never happen here."

Due Process and Just Compensation mean whatever the Congress determine them to mean. We're still some distance from nationalization of private industry, but were we to ever actually arrive at that point, remember two things: 1: The interpretation of the constitution in the context of present-day reality is a continuously variable thing, and 2: The constitution can be amended.

So long as the will of the people is communism, there is nothing in the constitution which stands in the way of the implementation of same.

Serious question: how do a website which specializes in unusual underwear, and a website which caters to transvestite pedophiles, matter in the context of a thread which is related to political issues in the US?

You don't feel the fact that are websites which specializes in products to which parents use to emotional/physically harm their children for life has no business in the generation wuss thread? you don't see a potential/ongoing socio-political issue here?

Or as a child of Cubans who escaped the horrors of communism, do you find the freedom to do irreversible damage to your own kin, based on the same science to prove the earth is flat, somehow rewarding?

New Jersey school bans students from taking limos to prom. School officials cite 'equality.'

'This way we have a little more control over what's going on'

The one event almost every high school senior looks forward to is senior prom.
But officials in one New Jersey school district have put a damper on the rite of passage after they banned students from taking limos and party buses to their prom venue, instead mandating they take chaperoned coach buses to and from the event.

What are the details?

Officials at Lakeland Regional High School in Wanaque, New Jersey, say the change is about maintaining safety for all students — with the belief that controlling transportation will curb underage drinking — and equality because not all students can afford a limousine or party bus.

But the bus will not be free. The school will charge each student $15 for transportation costs, according to WCBS-TV.

"This way we have a little more control over what's going on. [The prom venue is] 45 minutes away from campus, so we'll make sure students get there and back safely," school superintendent Hugh Beattie said.
...

equal misery, wussy comrades.
