The University of Wisconsin, Madison is reintroducing a controversial course that asks students to question their “whiteness” and explain how it’s a problem.

In the coming spring, students at the publicly-funded university can select a course titled “The Problem of Whiteness” as part of the African Cultural Studies program, which teaches students to “understand how whiteness is socially constructed and experienced in order to dismantle white supremacy.”

The course ignited a national debate on whether it was “OK” to be white when it first debuted in the spring of 2017. It prompted Republican lawmakers to call for the course to be investigated and scrapped, one of who highlighted tweets from the professor in charge of the course, Damon Sajnani, who is white.

According to the College Fix, the class in spring may reference these reactions, as its professor created a montage of headlines criticizing the course as part of its new cover sheet.

The legislator showed that the professor “condones violence against law enforcement and compares white voters to the KKK.”

In one of the tweets, Sajnani took a screenshot of the 2016 fatal police shooting in Dallas, and wrote “Is the uprising finally starting? Is this style of protest gonna go viral?,” following it up with a celebration about how he was listening to the hip-hop song about killing police officers.

“Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive – students said they found it valuable to examine majority cultures and how power imbalances are created, sustained, and challenged in societies around the world,” the spokesperson told the College Fix.

The upcoming class will “break away from the standard US-centric frame” and look at whiteness through a broader, global lens.

“We will come together with our socially ascribed identities of Black, white, mixed and other and, with the problem properly in its place we will ask ourselves and our allies, what are we going to do with it,” states the online description.

First of all, it's "whom," not "who," in this context.

Second, Jesus, do we seriously live in a world in which it's once again acceptable / desirable to note the race of an interviewee when quoting them in a news story?

Not only is that article racist, but it's a lame cop-out.

You wanna be edgy? Try posting "things that blacks people ruin". That would take some *****, which seem to be sadly lacking these days.

Yep. Choose whatever group is least likely to have the collective ***** to react and go after them. Choosing white males is like choosing shopkeepers from India. Not going to make big collective waves because generally thinking, "Whatever. This too shall pass."

"Everything" would be too short an article.

I had no idea myself.

What does a protective style mean?
Protective styling is a term every natural hair woman, or pretty much every woman, hears on the daily. ... A true protective hairstyle is at its base simply a style that protects the ends of your hair, helping to decrease tangling, shedding and breakage.

Silicon Valley is ever at the cusp of new health trends, but unlike the ketogenic diet and the cold-brewed tea, West Coast elites are now consuming dangerous, unfiltered water—and they’re paying a fortune to do it.

People in San Francisco are spending up to $60 dollars to drink the untreated water. Sold by a company called Live Water, bottles of the filth are flying off the shelves, according to the New York Times. Others, it is reported, are gathering and storing untreated spring water—known to harbor potentially lethal bacteria that survivalists, travel guides, and soldiers will warn you from drinking.

Food safety experts warn that consuming so-called “raw” water can cause deadly infections including cholera, hepatitis A, and E. coli, among other water-borne diseases.

Startups dedicated to selling untreated water are also on the rise. One company, called Zero Mass Water, is selling products that allow people to collect their own water from rivers and streams near their homes. The New York Times reports that the company has already raised more than $24 in venture capital funding.

The paper reports that enthusiasts of the fad are venturing out at night onto private property to purloin untreated water from natural springs to quench their thirst.

tolerant:

Students for Life of America’s Appalachian Regional Coordinator, Brenna Lewis, recorded an encounter with a pro-choice student, who sought to justify his support for infanticide of two-year-olds. The student attends University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

The student claimed that because a two-year-old may not be sentient, that the two-year-old baby does not have the same right to life. He also compared its rights to that of a tree. Because the baby cannot talk, for example, the student argued that it did not have the same rights.
