Taking all of those at face value and discounting the fact that many nations probably don't even keep track of those kinds of statistics...

Most of that could speak to the productivity and incredible wealth of the USA. We watch the most TV? Is it because we are not working a rice patty or sewing Nikes together from sun up until sundown and EVERYONE who wants one owns a TV?

Of course American corporations sell the most fast food: the industry pretty well originated and was improved here. Our corporations have the ability to then go and implement their models worldwide.

We are the most obese? Life of plenty and leisure.

Etcetera.

USA NUMBA ONE!

#2 There are more car thefts in the United States than anywhere else in the world by far.

#3 Of all the major industrialized nations, America is the most obese. Mexico is #2.

we has more money, and it's easier to get food. Mexico makes sense since they all live in america and send the money back down.

We probably have more credit cards too. Giving more people a chance to have more things that other countries can only dream of.

#8 The United States has the highest percentage of one person households on the entire planet.

Awesome! Means even a virgin with a dream can make a good living for himself.

#9 The United States has the highest divorce rate in the world by a good margin.

at least we have schools to shoot at.

#12 The United States has the highest child abuse death rate in the world.

whoops.

#13 There are more "deaths by reptile" in America than anywhere else in the world.

#14 The United States has the most lawyers per capita in the entire world.

More chances for citizen to protect thier rights. This is awesome.

#15 The United States produces more pornography than any other nation in the world.

$1 menu.

#28 According to nationmaster.com, the United States has the most total reported crimes in the world by far.

war about war crimes, and crimes against its own citizens.

They also make you milk yourself. but see #25.

see #31.

#33 The United States spends more on the military than the next 12 nations combined, and yet the Obama administration is considering plans to unilaterally slash the size of the U.S. nuclear arsenal by up to 80 percent.

see #32.

#34 The United States has the most foreign military bases in the world by far.

see #33.

#35 The United States exports more arms to other countries than anyone else in the world.

This is better than giving them free weapons, then they turn around and blow up our buildings later with the same.

#36 Americans spend more time sitting in traffic than anyone else in the world.

too busy seeing #34 and not focusing on infastructure.

#37 Americans spend more money on elections than anyone else does in the world by a very wide margin.

there's a bunch in there that speak directly to how our country is unraveling in rescent history. its sad. We are a great country and unlike any other, but for some reason we have a generation of whiney know-it-alls that think it makes sense to destory what we've accomplished so we are just like every other shitty country out there with a proven track record of failure.

lol at some of those responses

Don't get me wrong, I love it here. I love the fact that we can turn nothing into something and profit from it. Work hard enough, do well and you really can live the american dream. The only problem is its less and less actual americans pursuing this "dream" as the years go on. Everyone here is comfortable with their job, loves watching tv and lives off $1 menus. Is that really so great? lol

I just wish more people cared about our country and didnt even let it get this far. Everyone in the government is just looking for any way to keep us comfortable while they sit back and collect on what we do make. If you break that comfort zone then you REALLY pay for it. Rather than reward hard work, we make it harder. Then we take from the ones that keep working and give it to the shitbags sitting on the couch. I just do not understand this train of thought.

The american dream has become "get on unemployment and max out your 99 weeks, then reapply for another 99" or "win the lottery and collect food stamps at the same time". The american dream isn't about hard work anymore, its about skating through life on easy street for as long as possible.

The ------- immigrants that everyone hates so much are the guys that are doing the hard work. Building the houses that nobody here wants to build anymore. Etcetcetc

americans dont pursue the dream, we live it and dont apprecitate it, then lobby congress to pass laws and ruin it because we a lazy dirty hippies who are jealous of those with passion and ambition who get ---- done and use soap and can afford good doctors to make their noses look perfect.

immigrants with nothing buy $5 to their name that come here and make it for themselves, working as a janitor or becoming a millionare and not dying to genocide from their own government are the ones pursuing the dream.

i better be careful, all my patriotic nationalism pride might make bbundy call me a fascist.

but again, if these are the 40 most embarassing things, it says a lot about the current state of our current government/policies and how it's ruining the american dream.

I would expect a lot of those statements will be based on pure total numbers rather than percentages or per capita numbers. Clearly you'll top totals when you have the worlds 3rd largest population (and the highest population of any MEDC in the world)

MOAR. Taken from http://endoftheamericandream.com/arc...rse-in-america

#1 Median household income in the United States is down 7.8 percent since December 2007 after adjusting for inflation.

#2 There are 5.6 million less jobs than there were when the last recession began back in late 2007.

#3 The U.S. government says that the number of Americans "not in the labor force" rose by 17.9 million between 2000 and 2011. During the entire decade of the 1980s, the number of Americans "not in the labor force" rose by only 1.7 million.

#4 In 2007, the unemployment rate for the 20 to 29 age bracket was about 6.5 percent. Today, the unemployment rate for that same age group is about 13 percent.

#5 In 2007, 73.2 percent of all young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 that were not enrolled in school had jobs. Today, that number has declined to 65 percent.

#6 Back in the year 2000, more than 50 percent of all Americans teens had a job. This past summer, only 29.6% of all American teens had a job.

#7 When Barack Obama entered the White House, the number of "long-term unemployed workers" in the United States was approximately 2.6 million. Today, that number is sitting at 5.6 million.

#8 The average duration of unemployment in the United States is nearly three times as long as it was back in the year 2000.

#9 Back in 1950, more than 80 percent of all men in the United States had jobs. Today, less than 65 percent of all men in the United States have jobs.

#10 According to the Obama administration, about 20 percent of all jobs in the United States were manufacturing jobs back in the year 2000. Today, about 5 percent of all jobs in the United States are manufacturing jobs.

#11 Sadly, more than 56,000 manufacturing facilities in the United States have been shut down since 2001.

#12 Back in 1980, less than 30% of all jobs in the United States were low income jobs. Today, more than 40% of all jobs in the United States are low income jobs.

#13 The U.S. trade deficit with China during 2011 was 28 times larger than it was back in 1990.

#14 About twice as many new homes were sold in the United States in 1965 as are being sold today.

#15 Home prices in the 4th quarter of 2011 were four percent lower than they were during the 4th quarter of 2010. Overall, U.S. home prices are 34 percent lower than they were back at the peak of the housing bubble.

#16 The total value of household real estate in America has declined from $22.7 trillion in 2006 to $16.2 trillion today.

#17 At the end of 2011, 22.8 percent of all homes in the United States with a mortgage were in negative equity. That would have been unthinkable a decade or two ago.

#18 Total home mortgage debt in the United States is now about 5 times larger than it was just 20 years ago.

#19 Total consumer debt in the United States has increased by a whopping 1700% since 1971.

#20 Since the beginning of 2009, the average price of a gallon of gasoline in the United States has increased by more than 90 percent.

#21 The number of children living in poverty in the state of California has increased by 30 percent since 2007.

#22 Back in the year 2000, 11.3% of all Americans were living in poverty. Today, 15.1% of all Americans are living in poverty.

#23 In November 2008, 30.8 million Americans were on food stamps. Today, 46.5 million Americans are on food stamps.

#24 The U.S. dollar has lost 96.2 percent of its value since 1900. You can thank the Federal Reserve system for that.

#25 In 1950, the United States was #1 in GDP per capita. Today, the United States is #13 in GDP per capita.

#26 According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 49 percent of all Americans live in a home that receives direct monetary benefits from the federal government. Back in 1983, less than a third of all Americans lived in a home that received direct monetary benefits from the federal government.

#27 In 1980, government transfer payments accounted for just 11.7% of all income. Today, government transfer payments account for more than 18 percent of all income.

#28 Federal housing assistance increased by a whopping 42 percent between 2006 and 2010.

#29 Medicare spending increased by 138 percent between 1999 and 2010.

#30 Back in 1990, the federal government accounted for 32 percent of all health care spending in America. Today, that figure is up to 45 percent and it is projected to surpass 50 percent very shortly.

#31 Back in 1965, only one out of every 50 Americans was on Medicaid. Today, one out of every 6 Americans is on Medicaid, and things are about to get a whole lot worse. It is being projected that Obamacare will add 16 million more Americans to the Medicaid rolls.

#32 Right now, spending by the federal government accounts for about 24 percent of GDP. Back in 2001, it accounted for just 18 percent.

#33 In 2004, the U.S. government had a budget deficit of a little over 412 billion dollars. This year, the U.S. government will run a budget deficit of over 1.3 trillion dollars.

#34 In 2001, the U.S. national debt was less than 6 trillion dollars. Today, it is over 15 trillion dollars and it is increasing by about 150 million dollars every single hour.

#35 The U.S. national debt is now more than 22 times larger than it was when Jimmy Carter became president.

I get that a lot of these lists is supposed to sound like "god damn poor people messin up my country!"

but this #28 caught my attention.

I know a lot of people who are in the top 5-10% of earners who got federal housing assistance in the form of firstime homebuyer credits and FHA loans.

I did it myself. I'm not poor.

Yeah, lots of cherry-picked stats (assuming they are all accurate) or presented without context. For example:

#26 According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 49 percent of all Americans live in a home that receives direct monetary benefits from the federal government. Back in 1983, less than a third of all Americans lived in a home that received direct monetary benefits from the federal government.

Are they including Social Security payments in that stat? How about military compensation and benefits?

Damn all those retiree and veteran sycophants!
