Iowa City police officer faces drunken driving charge after North Liberty arrest | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports, and Weather
North Liberty Police Chief Diane Venenga said the arresting officer did not initially know Trevino was a police officer. She added that, had the officer known about Trevino’s employment, he would not have received any different treatment.
“We can’t do anything different,” Venenga said.
Venenga said Trevino was hospitalized rather than taken directly to the hospital and allowed to turn himself in on a warrant for first offense drunken driving.
“We’d do that for anybody,” she said. “It’s not a professional courtesy.”
Jail records show Trevino was booked at the Johnson County Jail Wednesday afternoon and released 10 minutes later.

Police Shoot Dog During Search for Person Who Ransacked Home, Stole Mercedes | NBC Southern California
When police came to investigate, they entered through a neighbor's backyard and were confronted by a large "aggressive" dog in the backyard, Incontro said. An officer then shot the dog.
"One officer fired one round. The dog continued toward the officer," Incontro said. "The officer again fearing for his safety fired a second round, striking the dog. The dog ran from that location."
The owner of the 5-year-old pit bull/boxer mix named Weezy said the dog will be OK, and the bullet did not strike any vital organs.
"They have to do what they have to," owner Sammy Abdelal said, adding that he accept the apology from San Marino police for shooting his dog.

Wow. I have this sub-forum turned off for notifications of new posts, so I've never been here.
Scott: serious question. Where would you ideally live? Given appropriate income/wealth/whatever for the location you choose. Where you live now is a legitimate answer, not saying it's not.

Habersham Sheriff, deputy shot responding to domestic call | www.wsbtv.com
A gunman shot a local sheriff and a deputy on Sunday and killed a woman and possibly another person, Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents said.
Investigators said the shooter is dead.
Habersham county manager Phil Sutton told Channel 2 Action News that the gunman shot Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell and Deputy Bill Zigan.
Investigators told Channel 2’s Rachel Stockman that the shooter, identified as Anthony Giaquinta, is a former officer from the Gainesville Police Department.
...
Sutton told Fernandes that the sheriff showed up at the domestic incident because he thought he could calm down Giaquinta.
Police said Giaquinta shot the woman with whom he was fighting, then shot at Terrell and Zigan.

juries believe that chaining a suspect to the wall, then beating, kicking, and eye gouging them is part of the job -- so long as the officer is scared.

Video proof isn't always what it seems, ex-cop's acquittal shows
Interrogation room video seems to show a Milwaukee police detective repeatedly beating and kicking an unresisting suspect who is handcuffed to the wall.
Prosecutors thought it so clearly showed an abuse of authority they charged Rodolfo Gomez Jr. with two felonies, and the chief of police fired the veteran detective over the August 2013 incident.
But a jury's decision last week to acquit Gomez, 48, showed again that "what you see is what you get" does not always apply to video evidence, no matter how incontrovertible it may look.
A juror from the trial said a defense expert's frame-by-frame examination of the incident's key moments put things in a different light and convinced jurors that Gomez reasonably believed he was in danger and used only the force necessary to establish control over Deron Love, a suspect in the death of his infant son.

juries believe that it's okay to unload 80 rounds into a knowingly sleeping, drunk, schizophrenic carrying a bb gun, causing bystanders to cowering in fear, then to celebrate the ezpz kill on camera.

Before the police arrived, Garza was approached by security about the gun. Garza explained that it was a pellet gun he had just purchased from Walmart, and the guard checked it out to be sure. The guard has stated that he could tell it was not a real gun based on the cartridges. The private guard asked him to put it away, and Garza did. After the encounter, Garza reportedly fell asleep on the couch in front of the building with a bottle of wine and headphones on.

“This was an individual that came and sat down at the couch in front of the building and basically had a bottle of wine and fell asleep. He was sitting down, and he woke up after several commands, because he had headphones on and he was asleep. As he stood up, the police officers began firing.” a witness explained.
“There was so much stray gunfire, people inside the building were forced to drop to the ground and crawl their way out of the police line of fire.”

Cops love to settle cases so they don't expose their illegal wiretapping
Secrecy around police surveillance equipment proves a case?s undoing - The Washington Post

The case against Tadrae McKenzie looked like an easy win for prosecutors. He and two buddies robbed a small-time pot dealer of $130 worth of weed using BB guns. Under Florida law, that was robbery with a deadly weapon, with a sentence of at least four years in prison.
But before trial, his defense team detected investigators’ use of a secret surveillance tool, one that raises significant privacy concerns. In an unprecedented move, a state judge ordered the police to show the device — a cell-tower simulator sometimes called a StingRay — to the attorneys.
Rather than show the equipment, the state offered McKenzie a plea bargain.
Today, 20-year-old McKenzie is serving six months’ probation -after pleading guilty to a second-degree misdemeanor. He got, as one civil liberties advocate said, the deal of the century. (The other two defendants also pleaded guilty and were sentenced to two years’ probation.)

Court rules ex-officer can?t face gun charge - Toledo Blade
The Ohio Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that an Ottawa Hills police officer who shot a man during a traffic stop is not subject to a gun-specification law.
Former officer Thomas White was convicted in 2010 of felonious assault with a firearm specification. During the early morning of May 23, 2009, White stopped Michael McCloskey, Jr., and another motorcyclist along Indian Road for driving violations and what the officer believed was fleeing.
White exited his police cruiser with weapon drawn, ordered Mr. McCloskey to raise his hands, and quickly fired when he believed Mr. McCloskey reached for a weapon. The gunshot left Mr. McCloskey paralyzed, and no weapon was found in his pocket.
Justice Terrence O’Donnell, whose father was a police officer, wrote the majority ruling. The firearm specification exists to enhance punishment for criminals who choose to use a gun, he said.
“We therefore conclude that the General Assembly did not intend the firearm specification to apply to a police officer who fired a gun issued to him to protect himself, fellow officers, and the public from a person he thought was about to brandish a weapon,” he wrote.

Whether you know it or not, there is currently an epidemic happening in America, and it isn’t Swine Flu, H1N1, Malaria, Ebola, or the Measles; it’s called pedophilia, and it is being perpetrated by some of those whom you trust to “enforce and uphold the law.”
