Everybody with a 1.6 wishes they had a girlfriend

I've been keeping an eye on them lately here in New Zealand, and I can't seem to see any beyond 1993 with the pop up lights? But have seen some 1993's that are 1800? Anyone know why this is? I was under the impression they went up to 1997 and the 1800cc engine started in 1994?

(I'm also super new to Miatas (MX-5 here) so don't hate if I sound dumb please)

edit: Actually can't see any pop up light MX-5's beyond 1993 here. Seems odd.

 

The USDM started with 1.8 in '94. Other parts of the world still had some 1.6 mixed with 1.8.
