Would be keen to see this but when you can do so much to a stock Miata engine, it's probably just a lot more work for not that much better an outcome.

take some measurements. and I forget which way the 3s rotates but you might want to check that too.

then go out and find an old altezza/IS or supra transmission and see if it'll fit under the car.

that'd be pretty unique, whats the ballpark figures of a swap like this? more than a v8?

For 500whp, a built BP should suffice. If you want to go ahead and do the swap just because [race car ] then go ahead.

I think you should, It would be awesome and unique. My buddy is doing a 3sgte swap into his 88 mr2 right now. I am giddy to see that thing rolling around.

Yeah, but that makes WAY more sense than throwing it in a Miata. Or a Pinto.

This to me is one of those things that sounds awesome until about 4 months into the project when you still dont have a running stock sub 250hp 3sgte in there and you have spent 2x as much as it would take to build a 1.8 and turbo it. If you insist on swapping in a factory turbo 4cyl the sr20 is a better option, unlike the 3s the sr20 is all aluminum, not to mention there is a mount kit available and the swap has been done numerous times. In my opinion even the sr20 is a waste. B6, BP, F20/22c and lsx engines are the only power plants that are worth using in a miata in my opinion. To each his own though and no matter the engine a 500whp miata is sure to be a hand full.
