This will answer most, if not all of your questions and will alleviate a lot of issues from popping up during the conversion.

- Stop looking at CXRacing parts.
- Read all the stickies in every subforum.
- If you have a question, type "site:miataturbo.net __________" into Google with keywords in the blank and read about the topic. You will typically find the answer to most questions without having to ask them yourself.
- Read through popular build threads. If you have questions, repeat step 3
- If you see the same screen names giving good advice over and over again, look through the threads they have started, find their build threads or other popular threads, and read them. If you have questions, repeat step 3

Alright, so I will be going with a cast mani so I will stay away from the Cxracing downpipe. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get one custom made. If I do it before the build then I wont have the dimensions but if I do it after the build then I wont be able to drive to a shop to get one custom made to fit. How do you guys go about getting a custom one made that'll fit perfectly with an immobile car? What can I expect to pay or what are you guys paying on average to have a basic 2.5" mild steel downpipe fabbed up?

I actually have a Mig welder sitting in my garage I used to weld up a mid-pipe on my Subaru. It worked but didn't have the prettiest welds. Would this type of welder be fine to use to fab up the downpipe? Would i see much of a benefit using a 3" downpipe over a 2.5" or would I even see any benefit since I only have a 2.5" catback?

Depends on whether you use stainless or mild steel.
Did some googling for you:
Should I heat wrap my downpipe?
https://forum.miata.net/vb/archive/i...p/t-17463.html
VWVortex.com - Heat wrap the downpipe or don't heatwrap the downpipe?
Heat wrap down pipe....Good or bad idea??? - MR2 Owners Club Message Board
tl;dr: It's an opinion thing you won't really get a solid answer on, but nobody says anything bad about ceramic coating. Seeing as you're a city driver, I'm assuming you sit in traffic? Might want to bite the rust bullet and wrap it anyways.
