i cant believe this is the first time ive checked this thread out! Really cool stuff you are doing, i wouldnt trust myself to do anything like that and expect it to come out well. On your manifold, did you grind everything down till it sat nice and flush for the best flow? i would imagine even a small edges of pipes sticking out inside the pipes could hurt the flow.
Well from what Ive seen so far, when you sell this stuff later on, you may actually get back more than you put into it $$ wise. |
Yeah, I tried my best to get those pipes to mate perfectly.....It was very hard to do with a sawsall and an angle grinder. I do think it was done well though. Hopefully I can get most of my money back, I am at $2800 in parts right now and should have it running tonight??

That downpipe is sex. Good job.
|
Is it really necessary to get Stainless Steel ceramic coated? Stainless does a pretty good job of retaining heat all by itself.
Coatings are usually applied to mild steel, like my pos mani. |
Wow, talk about quality work.
|
Thanks...it took 2 solid weeks of work after my real work to get it done. I am going to a track day on october 3rd with it and will let everyone know how this setup works. Let me know if you are interested in anything in particular for performance and I can try to post it. I will also put up pics of the finished product soon.

So if I am going to install my LC-1 is it a bad idea to tap into the stock narrow band wiring. I read that you can patch the brown LC-1 output into the pink narrow O2 wiring. If I do this do I need to splice into any of the other wires? What are the disadvantages compared to direct ecu connection? Thanks...
|
Along with my previous post, can I just unplug the stock O2 sensor and connect my brown wire to the plug where the pink wire would go?
|
I think some people are re using their stock wiring, you just need to have the controller somewhere in there.
I am curious, how did you make the bends for the downpipe? Pre bent pipe? |
I got pre bent 90's from acestainless.com, very very good quality and cheap, and then I made my own transitions.

It is all put together now, except for a bunch of small stuff like fans, heat shields, gauges, and shrouds. Check out the album and these pics:

Curious to see is the data for temps- air, coolant and oil once on track.
I'm assuming the "shrouds" you mention are what's sealing up around the IC sides to box in the vmount? Nice work. |
damn nice work! mad props...
|
Yeah, the shrouds will keep all of the air through the radiator and intercooler. I may also split the flow between the two for the best of both. Then build a box around the intake filter and supply it with two ducts from the mouth opening.
For now I have to find a new ignition coil somewhere in the bay area (CA) because i toasted mine with the megasquirt. I tried my best not to but did not know that you have to go file -> open .msq, to load the base map before you plug the coils back in. I just loaded megatune then plugged them in and zap....they are gone in 30 seconds....lame. |
Very cool!

The car is running now but needs some tuning before I hit the road. It sounds beefy, especially the spal fans. They are extremely loud. I am going to wire on to the thermal switch and one to an in cabin manual switch...I think.
I will post more pics of the fans and WHITE hardtop that I scored for $400. It looks like a highway patrol car now. |
Jesus fuckin' christ, Kyle. I need to check that out. What are you up to this weekend? I'll be back in town for the weekend to attend to a few things.
|
I will be here tuning. Give me a call....i'll email you my #....

My car looks like a CHP now with the white hardtop (soon to be DIY black) I got for $400.....sweet deal. Where is the best place to get the clamp plates that go by the door jam? Is it better to hard mount it with solid plates?
Attachment 215791 |
A few people i know don't use the side striker plates. The top and rear plates are enough they say.
Any place like planetmiata partsgroup mazmart should be able to get you those plates for cheap, or your local junkyard. |
