Question Baffled by valve cover baffles !!

Anybody know what the box shaped baffled off section on the 1.6 valve cover is for ?

It does not seem to connect to anything !!

Seriously though. I wasn’t looking for the information in regard to oil issues or catch can design-
I offered a friend who “adds lightness” to his Miata to lighten his valve cover which was off the car for other repairs.
There’s not much you can take off so I wondered about that boxed in section under the valve cover.

I was trying to post a photo of a turbo kitten and this pic of the lightened valve cover came out.

Thanks man ! Yes, I finally saw that it is in fact connected via a small tube. Thus the victim does not want it removed so I left it alone.
The cover shown is not for me but for a non aspirated friend.
