Begi EWG Manifold

I'm looking for feedback from people using it, I'm curious about fitment. Obviously it's gonna work, its a cast manifold. I'll be running a T3 3071 with a 3"v-band outlet which i'm sure is gonna suck to try to fit it all in my car. i'm building my own 3" vband downpipe / notching the frame as needed but i'm curious if anyone else is running this. I cant remember whats in my sig, been a while, 94 car, 99 motor, 6speed, skunk2 tb, 1000ccs, 84mm weiscos, eagle rods, supertech valves, springs, head stuff bleh bleh bleh

warning, rant below, tl:dr begi customer service still sucks

/rant
I'm also looking to add some FYI on their customer service. I'll just add i'm extremely dissappointed in my experience with them (this is my first and last order with them). I called in early march and spoke with a lady (who i wont name but you all know who she is) and she quoted me a week to ship and another week if i wanted ceramic coating, i was worried about time so i just placed a non coated one. yeah i spec'ed the T3 and vband ewg flange, so alittle custom but she said no problem within a week, maybe two at max. Well it's been 7 weeks and with multiple inquirers and broken promises of it shipping 4 and 2 weeks ago i just want to let other people know their customer service is still lacking severely. Like just tell me straight up on the phone that its going to be more than 1-2 weeks and if you had a problem manufacturing or whatever, tell me that. I feel like she told me 1-2 weeks to get my money knowing it would be way longer than that, and thats just not right, oh and apparenlty 15 other people got suckered into this since i was 8 of 15 four weeks ago.

Why don't you place a chargeback on your card and get something that actually exists?

Schuyler 05-10-2017 10:26 PM

Yeah I'd chargeback that in a heartbeat. Too many better options these days.

Sandro351 05-10-2017 10:34 PM

I emailed them yesterday, kind of dickishly but I'm fed up at this point and told them I'm gonna charge back Friday if it doesn't ship by then. And I know there are other options, I originally went with this cuz it seemed like a decent cast manifold priced well and I was told I could have it in a timely manner.

I guess I'll ask the dumb question. What should I run for T3 Ewg? Fm and trackspeed are T2 (I believe) and I'm afraid of Fab9s welded frankenstein

y u no EFR

Lol I knew someone would. Cuz my buddy gets good pricing from Garrett and he preferred them to borg. Idk, I don't really have a great answer for you.

codrus 05-10-2017 10:46 PM

Even if it ships, you'll need to spend a couple quality hours with a grinder to get it to fit...

Your buddy should drive both.

Even if I were going with a Garrett, I would never pick a T3 3071R. That turbo is ~25yrs old. Depending on your power goals you want a GTX2863 or GTX2867, but the EFR6758 will still out-spool both of those on the bottom end and respond/drive way better. You'll also get the same boost control capabilities from the EFR's IWG than you would from your EWG, except you won't have to hassle with an EWG or plumbing it (EWG, two flanges, hardware, flex joint, materials, fab/welding time).

I am obviously biased but there's a reason I picked the EFR to build a bespoke kit around, instead of going with a Garrett like everyone else. The Garretts would have been a lot cheaper, too, but the EFRs are that much better.

ridethecliche 05-10-2017 11:24 PM

I'd charge back right now.

There's no reason to willingly subject yourself to so much headache.

I mean, if you're a sadist/masochist, then go for it I guess...

I don't think you have a whole lot more options. The T3 ebay cast manifold is the only other one I know of. I have used it before, and it works. I'm sure there's better parts out that are lighter, and flow better, and prettier, etc, but I ran one and made good power with it, so while it's not the best, it's not a bottle neck when it comes to power. And it's cheap.

So I guess my main reason for going t3 is I wanted a 3" vband outlet because I take my car apart to many times to be screwing around spending 2 housing taking out 5 impossible to reach bolts that you can only get an open end box wrench on. And the 3071 was a good match for what I was looking for. I mean people still use them and I'm aware it's gonna be slower to spool. Mainly building this car ever so slowly for some sort of time attack / track day monster. My power goals are north of 350. I had the car running at a solid 240whp for a year on a 2560r and I just wasn't impressed. Idk I guess I got the disease of just wanting more. Power obsessed. I mean given I still don't have my manifold, I could sell (or maybe return) this turbo and go a different route.

viperormiata 05-11-2017 10:50 AM

That's stupid. Litearlly all EFR turbos are v-band outlets.

No matter what your reasons are for your turbo choice, the most important parameter you did not consider is "what turbo will not require to use BEGI for anything". These kind of threads make me wonder how people still buy from them after the dozens and dozens of times they have shown horrible service.

concealer404 05-11-2017 12:06 PM

Chargeback now.

Start over.

Never give Begi your money again.

All EFRs are 3" v-band outlet, same as your 3071. Once the turbo is off, 7 of the 9 bolts on our manifold can be spun off with a socket/ratchet. Two require a box wrench but they are right on top, very easy to get to and plenty of wrench clearance. Purposely designed that way because I've had the pleasure of removing the center nut from a Bell/FM manifold one too many times.

People still use horses and buggies too. It's not a bad match, but there are half a dozen turbos out there that will do a better job at everything (more power, more spool, more response). Not just the EFR, but the GTX units I mentioned.

I'd seriously consider it. The 6758 will take you through the 450whp mark without any problems, and if you end up developing a mental illness at some point, the 7163 will bolt into place (same manifold, DP, oil/water, IC/intake, same everything) and give you headroom for 550+whp. All this without having to screw around with an EWG.

Compare the cost of your Garrett + EWG + BOV setup to an EFR setup which includes all of that - you may be surprised.

I failed hardcore to do decent research on this as it was the only T3 manifold that seemed decent. I was rushing to order all my stuff and when the T2 version was backordered 2 months (which now wouldnt have mattered since i'm manifoldless) i made a rush buy and went with BEGI hoping for the best. and got the worst.... live and learn i guess.

at this point i have the turbo and ewg, might as well get it on (assuming they actually ship me something) and see how it is, there's always next year to swap over to EFR

Sandro351 05-11-2017 03:44 PM

Savington, i realize all of this now, idk what i was thinking at the moment. the good prices on all the Garrett stuff is really what drove my decision. My DIY kit (mixed with i already have the oil/water lines, etc from my FM2 kit) is still alot of moneys south of your kit, but i do have to fab my own downpipe now and mess around with piping the ewg. and i will have a begi manifold, so theres that. and at this point i got all the stuff might as well try it and see how it is. new used stuff and used still sells for a loss either way. so whatever whats money when you got a turbo miata

Why don't you just chargeback and start over. You're legitimately falling into the sunk cost fallacy. Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you have to keep going forward with it.
