Are you expecting it to go soon or something? How does it look after nearly 2 years? Checked it for play or anything lately? Any noises? Or does it just seem like a regular turbo?
I'm not expecting it to go nor do I want it to go. I really don't want to spend the cash on a newturbo. I'll run this one until it stops. I've been upping the boost and it's fine. No issues yet, no noises, nothing weird. |
Cool stuff. If Bell will release their prices and more info I may join you in the land of China. turbo anyway, I still think I will go with the Bell manifold and downpipe.
|
I've driven DVCNs car myself and it runs great. Based on his I would not be too concerned about a Chinacharger's performance.
|
when is there going to be any info on this? Prices...all that
|
I hope soon. Ive been waiting since I heard about it here. Maybe this week they will get some info up.
|
I'm in the same boat waiting for info. If the prices are reasonable enough I may sell the parts I have and just do this.
Commi power! |
Why doesn't BEGI just go the extra mile and offer a Chinese manifold that doesn't suck and a Chinese DP that doesn't suck? There are a ton of cheap Chinese Suby DPs that work great.
You would think if a company could make a turbocharger that worked well that a manifold would be trivial. Frank Frank |

Stephanie was telling me about this...should end the constant bitching about late shipping...since it's all DIY - they COULD get these shipped quickly (doesn't mean it will or won't happen).
Kudos to Bell for doing this...great idea. doesn't seem too hard to accomplish shipping goals (+-) weeks, versus months (from what I hear). You'd think, at least |
I mess around...but I'm probably going Begi...because my luck - I will go DIY and forget a ton of shit.
|
Not really much to forget. Manifold, turbo, downpipe, oil feed and drain, coolant feed and drain, protect hoses from downpipe... of course fuel/ignition control, injectors, intercooler, maybe some other little things you can always add later like shields and cold air box.

Give me a shout out... I just sold my Supercharger set-up yesterday after talking to Stephanie about the Shanghi kits. I am going to call them back and spec out some additions and deletions to the kit and probably order one today. I'll be the local test case... I already have the Megasquirt on the way from Braineack, so I will delete the FPR from the kit, and I will probably get Corky to add something for a recirculated BOV, and I will put together my own intercooler from eBay. |

I think all the chinachargers are journal bearing not ball bearing. keep that in mind.

Ordered a shanghai kit last week. Can't wait to be boosted! We opted to leave out the pipe from the turbo to the intake manifold in favor of going with an ebay fmic. The idea of a non intercooled setup freaks me out a little.
1stproject. It's true that ball bearing turbos spool faster, how much, I don't know. If anyone is curious, the chinacharger is comparable to a gt2854 and yes, it is journal bearing. It's listed on BEGi's website. I'll post up a build thread when we get the kit that will hopefully be complete with spool data and dyno numbers. |

I am trying to decide what to do about the intercooler. I really want this set-up to look OEM this time. My previous custom Greddy installation made some good power, but left a little to be desired in the appearance department. I really like the looks of the new downpipe on these kits. The little mini-divorced pipe is a nice addition. When you decide what you are going to buy for an intercooler, let me know. I would like to see what you do. What kind of price break did Stephanie give you for deleting the pipes? |
Stephanie gave us a $169 price break for leaving out the pipes. We also went with a wideband o2 and we got the bypass valve as well.
We'll keep you posted on the intercooler. |
The only thing that scares me is the angle at which waste gate section of the DP re-joins the turbine section. It's almost straight instead of gradual.

Turbos similar to the GT2781's are now available!
