Default BEGI-S vs. Greddy

We're looking to do a bit of a budget turbo setup and have pretty much narrowed it down to two options. Our budget is roughly $2200. We also plan to build the bottom end and upgrade our turbo setup this winter. But we want boost now!

#1. BEGI-S Kit
$2025 shipped
The idea here is we would get this kit and try to get it without the piping to the intake manifold. Instead we'd go with an ebay front mount and some custom fabbed piping. I believe a dsm bypass valve can also be used?

#2. Greddy Kit (would have to mod, not sure how much it requires)
$1648 + shipping
Again we'd get an ebay fmic to complement the kit and optimise the power. This just looks like a slightly cheaper option.

Goals:
Short term - gain 60-80 whp and have quick spool.
Long term - 250-300 overall whp and as quick of spool as we can get.

Any words wisdom are much appreciated.
Thanks!

Technically TRUST japan filed for bankruptcy. Greddy usa is doing just fine.......but when it comes to which kit you should be getting i'm going to agree with Sam and definitely say go with Begi.

1. IMO its a better product for your money
2. They are a smaller company and you can talk to anyone who you would want to. IE corky, stephanie, Mary(i think). As apposed to greddy where you aren't buying the kit directly from them. you're getting it from a 3rd party who probably knows dick about miata's
3.The Begi kit will allow you to kit your power goals where the greddy turbo is smaller and you'd have to upgrade your turbo to obtain them.

Depending on how firm that $2200 budget is, I'd think about holding off a little whlie. Inevitebly there will be something that breaks, or various other little expenses that pop up you weren't expecting.

On top of that, given you're 250-300whp goal you're definitely going to want a lot of upgrades that neither kit comes with. Either kit is fairly up grade friendly, but there is still a lot of overlap and extra cost doing it that way. You're already thinking about a intercooler and you'll definitely want a bigger turbo, you'll need to upgrade to something that can control timing and injectors, etc, etc.

I think the best thing to do at this point would be to take what money you've saved and buy a megasquirt. Familiarize yourself with it NA when it's safer to learn on and you have less variables to consider. Once you've got that tuned and running well, then buy some 550 injectors and get the car running well on those. Once you've done that you can save up a bit more and drop the money on a kit that is going to meet your final power goals.

I'll give him my frequent flier miles...I have more than god.

Buy the BEGi kit. It will last longer and each part is better. Start with a good foundation (and ss lines) and you won't have to spend money on things twice. The chinacharger is an exception to this because its proven to work and last a long time, unlike rubber oil lines and the greddy manifold.

With the begi stuff, you can probably expect everything to work right the first time. Mine did. You may not always agree with me, but your slunt girlfriend does.

+1 on getting fuel/spark management squared away first.

+1 on Hustler's suggestions w/regard to BEGi. Their kits are designed to be upgraded to those kinds of levels and a support structure exists.

Well we decided to go BEGI Shanghai without the piping to the intake manifold and we're going to run an ebay fmic with it. This decision may very well come back to bite us in the *** but we want boost asap and will probably be happy with the smaller kit for a while. 250whp is kind of the long term goal anyways. I'm just worried about the clutch now. I'm not thinking it's going to last much longer. Luckily the turbo kit was cheap enough to where we still have some money left.

I agree that megasquirt would be a good idea, but it's pretty expensive and we just want a simple boost solution for the time being. Should I be ok with just the rising rate fpr? Should I get a step colder plugs?

Good choice going with the Begi, the Greddy would've gotten you to 250, but not beyond.
