Bestest boost controller?

I have a cheapo mbc and while it works i cant help wondering what i have laying on the table becouse of the finnicky control and geuss work required to get the desired boost. So here is my question what is the best boost controller for less than say 200 dollars(or more if it is worth it). electronic or manual doesnt matter but i would prefer it to be a standalone unit and not be tied into an eftermarket ecu.

i have no clue or expertise on this comeon guys help me out.

I really like the Greddy Profec B Spec II but isn't someone on here designing there own EBC? I'd love to support who ever it is by using one on my next project.

magnamx-5 10-06-2006 10:43 PM

any specs on the profec or experiences?:rly: ouch just looked up the greddy site no way 600-400 dollars is way to much for a bc.

Kelly 10-06-2006 10:52 PM

Yeah...with the profec I was able to see great spool gains on the cars that I have used them in. You can even make it so you have a big high boost midrange spike and then taper it back. Being able to quickly switch between whoop ass and really whoop ass at the push of a button is cool too. I absolutely hate tuning cars with MBC's. Seems like you spend too much time jumping in and out of the car instead of driving an tuning.

:td: I know what you mean but that is alotof cash i could just dissconect my WG alotogether and buy another stage of WI and some more fuel for that much and run 20 psi till my tranny blows.:crx: does anyone have experience with the perring boost controllers they seem to be in my price range if they work.

i bought my turbo xs mbc for like $50 used but I havent hooked it up yet...

Kelly 10-06-2006 11:22 PM

Don't jump to a new manual yet.....wait and see if the creator pops in...I honestly forget who is making them.

Braineack 10-06-2006 11:42 PM

Bripab007 and 2G Engineering have created one. There are a few test bunnies here one the board (me included) It's a nice, simple, easy unit and works just as demanded. A set it forget it device.

basically 4 wires hook it up, power - gnd - 2 for the silenoid. Hook up the silenoid in place of the MBC, and tee the MAP sensor off your boost gauge. 20 minute install. Set your boost level, and then go out and test the duty cycle. Set that and forget it.

they are wokring on adding features for outputs, e-manage, WI spraying, etc.

Approximate price? We are all pretty cheap bastards around here as you are well aware! :)

And idea on release date?

Kelly 10-07-2006 12:25 AM

Very low key....I dig it. How do I get one?

magnamx-5 10-07-2006 01:17 AM

i like it how much, i would be willing to help test it. even if i dont run a pcv i could provide some good feedback.

medisyn 10-07-2006 01:51 AM

Ya I am intrested in that boost controller too!

bripab007 10-07-2006 08:47 AM

Actually, it won't work with a car that has improperly-routed PCV lines...

PSYCH!!!! :D

There's no price as of yet, but it'll be quite inexpensive for an EBC. In fact, I'll remind Hal and Taylor to go ahead and register on this forum so they can answer questions like these directly. I've been running different versions of the boost controller for several months now, and it's a really good piece.

Thanks for the interest!

magnamx-5 10-07-2006 10:55 AM

i am will wait if it works and is in my price range then i will probably give you guys a call.

Kelly 10-07-2006 12:19 PM

Do we have any idea on the wait? I will probably need 2 or 3 of them.

bripab007 10-07-2006 01:27 PM

Well, I'd imagine knowing there's a least a small line of people forming, the wait could be shortened/production hastened. I'll find out soon!

Al Hounos 10-07-2006 01:58 PM

That looks pretty cool, if for some reason I can't get the MS boost control working, I'll go with that.
