Default boosted MK1 1.6 ICV Issue

Hi guys

I have a really funny problem that I can't get my head round. The problem started when the vac line from my turbo to actuator came loose causing my car to run 16psi!!

Once I Realised it was running 16psi ( 2 seconds max ) i pulled in to reattached the vac line, then when I turned the car on this problem arose.

When cold my car idles at 2K and slowly rises to 3k when warm ( there are no leaks haha)

I can resolve this by doing 1 of two things.

1, warm the car up for 30 seconds of so switch the car off then on, and it then idles as normal.

2, start the car, open the bonnet disconnect the icv and plug it back in, the car then idles as normal.

Both are annoying and driving me doolaley!!

Thanks All!!

I did change a couple of thing on the inlet prior to the vac line blowing off, just incase they might cause a issue!

- removed the wax valve of the side of the inlet and blacked it off (gasket too not leaking)
- Removed water lines

I did however leave one water line in place to the ICV this goes from the block -> ICV and is capped on the other side of the ICV!

Could the fact water can't go anywhere cause a problem, the only reason i stopped there is I'm waiting for something to black the holes?

Only if it's very, very cold out and ice has got in there and froze the valve up. That's why there's coolant lines in the throttle body, and why it's normally not a problem to remove the coolant lines.

Sounds like a shitty tune keeping idle from engaging to me. You can't enter closed loop idle from 3K rpm, or if you do you'll have crummy hunting idle that can still kick in while driving. Fix the IAC initial values, and look at the entry parameters.

Why would unplugging it and plugging it back in effect that though? cars been running fine and nothing has changed?

Update

- Clean ICV
- Replaced Gaskets to Air Valve blank plate
- Checked all Vac Lines
- Adjusted the butterfly (inlet)

Still no joy, I'm now thinking something has gone wrong with the map. I'm going to reload this tonight and see where we stand in the morning.

On thing I would like to add!!

It isn't just idle that affected, when driving the car will run upto 3K on its own!! Like a cheap cruise control, this make it hard to drive as it constantly picking up speed.

I fear driving like this will damage the clutch as I'm affectively left foot braking all the time, as the accelerator wont disengage (unless ICV is unplugged and plugged back in!)

It would seem I do but unplugging and plugging in the ICV resolve the issue. and then it is fine as long s the car doesnt become to cold! so that kind rules out vac leak does it not?

Spose the question should be, What would cause the idle to be 3K to normal by just unplugging it back in?

When I unplug the ICV the revs drop to around 7/800 then i plug it back in and they raise to 900/1K and all is good it doesnt try to stall etc.

The car will not do this on its own it will run at 3K as long as its on! you can turn it on and off but this only work once at op temperature

who built your ECU?

revs are supposed to rise when you unplug the ICV.

This is with a cold engine when it warm they do rise to about 1200 with it off and drop 900 with it in.

The Ecu was built by efi extra , but modifed by Reverent as it wouldnt run on my car. I dout it ECU or map related as it was only mapped 1 month ago...

Wonder if you blew a vacuum hose off when you hit 16psi. There is a plug on the back of the manifold down low. Could cause an issue.

I have attached 2 data Logs

Cold to 3K idle - You can see the ICV turning on the a massive lean spike, followed by revs of 2K then a rise to 3K!! ( I drove 30 min to work like this today not having to press the accelerator ones to see if it would go down and it didn't)

ICV unpluged and pluged back in! - You can see it idles fine once unplugged and plugged back in!

Cn someone have a look at the setting see if anything jumps out please. I have stated the map has been fine uptill now.

That would be constant though wouldn't it? it isnt constant as it does go away ones the ICV is plugged/unplugged.
