Why not just wack the 3 bolt flange of the megan and weld on a 6 bolt? Or is the 6 bolt a bellmouth and the 3 bolt roundish.

Thats what I was planning on doing. Would weld it on but I don't have access to that equipment so v-band flanges are looking like the best bet here. Unless theres someone in central florida with welding skills..

The only thing that will line up perfectly with a FM manifold is a FM downpipe. I remember reading that even the BEGI log manifold (shares almost identical design) mounts the turbo slightly higher or lower than FM requiring a spacer to make using the other companies downpipe work. I'd suggest just saving up for a FM downpipe. Or if your going to get a 2.5+ in exhaust get just the FM turbo elbow and have someone manufacture everything from the DP to the exhaust tip for you.

I think you're just going to have to pony up the money for a good DP (whether it be begi/fm or custom), thinking you can get your exhaust to fit with adapters is a pipe dream.

Anybody else want to chime in here? Are there any other manifolds that are compatible with an sr20 turbo (ie have a t25 flange) that would be more easily adaptable? Maybe throw in some angle joints? Surely someone else has found a workaround.

There are plenty of people running SR20 turbos. I would check most (if not all) of their build threads to see what they are running. I doubt all of them are running custom DPs.

There is also Begi, or Abe can make you a custom one for not much more (but the lead time will be much more).

I don't have the manifold. I was mainly building around the manifold which is why I kept making reference to it. Yeah I'm gonna hit up the classifieds though I have not seen an decent manifolds for sale yet. Thing is I planned to get the install done over a 10 day period (8/5-8/15) so I may be pushed for time. Fall will be my last semester as a mechanical engineering student and I know after 8/15 I will had no time as I will be searching for jobs etc..probably not the best strategy but I'll see what pops up between not and then. I can always resume this project in December.

Really want some of the sr20 turbo guys to give some advice. Been trolling the forums haven't found any solutions yet (other than getting a downpipe/mani from begi or fm).

there's no advice to give. You either buy from begi, fm or artech. Or you fabricate a custom one locally. Sounds like you should source parts during fall quarter and do the build over winter. There's many small pieces to the puzzle you may be missing and you still need to learn a whole lot about megasquirt and tuning unless your just going to pay someone to do it. Also i suggest you read Corky Bell's maximum boost. I'm on my second read through of it in preparation for my build this summer. Everything you need to know is in there.

If you're a mechanical engineering make it your senior project or something. I kinda wanted to cast a log manifold and weld a downpipe for my ME senior project but idk if I can find an advisor to approve it.

Currently building the megasquirt board now (complete DIY involves soldering everything on the board. There are tons of tutorials for that (and several excellent ones on this site) and everything seems straightforward so far.

Yeah you're right though I'm completely clueless about tuning right now though buffon01 is willing to help me with that once everythings up and running.

Unfortunately the school I go to (the university of central Florida) is currently the largest in the country and they make it very difficult to secure your own senior project unless you find a team of minimum 5 people that are 100% willing to support your idea and your idea is completely fleshed out. They're pretty strict about the requirements side of things and 90% percent of people including myself get assigned projects because of that.

Appreiciate the help though let me know if any of you guys find any sweet deals on manifold, downpipes etc..

I doubt that would even happen. My school is small and if you wanted to do that project, you could, but it would be 90% self funded.

If you're an ME and dont come out of school having machined proficiently and at least put two pieces of metal together with another blob of metal your school has failed you. Sometimes you have to put the effort in to do that **** yourself though and just get your *** in the shop and make it happen.

Yeah I agree completely with that. Rebuilt a honda b-series last summer in a storage unit next to the gas station by my apartment complex. Managed to get it done correctly despite having to deal with a unit manager who was a huge ***** and tried to kick me out at every opportunity. Learned more from that (knowing how to talk to machinists, part vendors, non engineers, etc..) than I ever did in school.

It doesn't hurt to dream... I've taken a foundry class and know how to and have done castings and my school has all the equipment. Creating a good design with little porosity would be very challenging tho. It would be an unlikely senior project but its just a thought. And yes, it would be pretty much self funded but if I can use it on my car I wouldn't mind.

Lol me too. Realized that after purchasing a welder, mask, and all the aliminized tubing I'd need to make a custom downpipe I'd be spending about the same amount I would be spending just buying a fm downpipe. I may have a potential buyer for the Honda b series longblock I built about a year ago...if that goes trough then I should be able to afford the fm manifold and downpipe kit no problem. Fingers crossed...otherwise I'm gonna have to put this off till I graduate due to cash and time constraints.
