FWIW: Someone recently pointed out that I should at least upgrade the rods on my P5 as they are the very weak and not even low boost friendly, I haven't found any forged rods that will work with the stock pistons though? So I may have to buy both, which seems like over kill on a 8psi set up...

on the civic i bought some forged pistons 9.0:1 and stock rods because my tuner messed up the timing map pretty bad so now i have a stock civic with lower compression forged pistons with stock rods. i like it cause i can tune alot of the fuel out and give it some advance and get away with some 89 oct. right now i am getting about 42 mpg, hybrid that honda.
so i guess i am just saying i like the stock rods and forged pistons as having some good pistons will allow more tuning adjustability and leanyency. just dont go turning up the boost

Not quite... forged pistons are stronger, but also more brittle. They are less likely to survive knock than the stock hypereutectic pistons. Now, if hondas come with crappy stock pistons I can see your arguement. But in a miata, the stock pistons will be more forgiving (under a certain power level obviously).

Hypercraptastic are brittle and will get shattered by knock. Ford I think uses hypereutectic stock and a few others do as well.
Stock mazda cast are softer and not as strong. When they fail, they can let go of the rod, just like hypereutectic.
Forged are strong without being brittle. When they do fail, they fail without shattering and letting go of the rod.
