One more question. How many hours labour will a shop charge me for the install?

Hey SloS13 are you running the F1 yet? If so how do you like it so far?

I've received it but havent had time to install it quite yet. Hopefully sometime next week. I have not noticed any clutchnet references on my parts though :eek5:

Dow.tom 08-07-2007 08:30 PM

it'll be about 800 total (including clutch) most times for a shop to do it.

If I do go with an ACT 1.6 XT clutch, with one should I get? There are soooo many models. A link would be greatly appreciated. TIA

factor in 400$ in labor minimum Tom you got screwed if they put in a oe clutch for 800$/ My ACT XT was 307$ shipped. Just get the street disc and you will be fine the XT has a good bit of pedal pressure to it a HD or the ebay clutch will work just fine for 200 whp. But the ebay clutch is not very long lasting atleast mine wasn't 12K miles of use left a noticable difference in new vs when i took mine out but i beat it pretty hard. and never broke it in either.

Snowsurfer03 08-21-2007 11:20 PM

Wow $800? It was only $120 labor for my spec stage II & it held 10psi on my greddy kit just fine.

magnamx-5 08-22-2007 09:20 AM

they hosed him on labor big time. one clutch install on a miata is no more expensive than another.

+1 ACT XT w/organic street disc no problems and holding at 12-14psi (1.8). Installing clutch was ez, reinstalling tranny was PITA.. Get quotes - if you find one that doesn't suck and have the $ to burn that's the route I'd go if I had to do it again (that is if I don't end up pulling motor by the next time I need a clutch).

A buddy of mine is running a stage 2 from eCLUTCHMATERS on his 96 with an mp62 at 12 psi. Has about 6k on it with no problems.

I upgraded to the 1.8 ACT HD rather than going with the 1.6 ACT XT. The pedal effort is noticeably more than stock but it's fine. I can't say how it compares to the 1.6 ACT XT though. The engagement point was really low but i just adjusted the pedal.

im using that xtd clutch in my protege and there is another guy with a boosted protege using the same clutch for 2yrs with no problems

Well I guess I finally got lucky on something because my Spec stage 3 four-puck has been in there for like 5k miles and it still grips great and I got it up to 17 or 18 psi (felt a bit quick ;) ) on a few boost spikes I had while messin with the megasquirt's boost control. I have two main gripes though, first being the engagement point, it goes from no grip to wooooooahhh! jerk the car around shit. Ive learned how to drive it in town, but I still get a jerky engagement 1 in 10 stops or so. Second gripe is that it sounds like the throwout bearing is already going out, as it is audible when the clutch is pushed in. I will be putting an ACT in next time the tranny is off.

Moral of story, its worth an extra hundred dollars or even more to go with the sure thing with a clutch ... I wish I did. OTOH if you are completely strapped for cash and have lots of time to work on your car, then a cheap clutch is less of a gamble.

I have decided to go with an ACT XT. Now which one specifically should I get? I have looked on Carolinaclutch.com and there are sooo many models. If you could include a link to a specific clutch from them it would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what the exact model # is but you can always email Fm and ask for their part numbers from the following kits

For 1.8:

For 1.6:

Not saying ya gotta get it from them but this is Extreme + Street Disc - ll hold gobs of power :-) and have smooth engagement.
