Default crappy dyno day experince....

ok, so I took a page out of someone elses book and held a toys for tots dyno day with my car club and a local tuner ( we did great by the way, raised a bunch of money and lot a lot of toys)

everyone elses car did really well..... my buddies soarer made 360whp @ 10psi
there was a 390whp sti.... etc.....

My car ran 14:1 afr's at 7psi

we only took the car to 4400 rpm before we let off to avoid damage.... no audible ping, and the hydra wasn't showing any knock.... which is extreemely odd to me.... in fact in 6 months I've never had any audible ping... no knock above the knock threshold or anywhere near it for that matter.

The car is running FM's timing map, and an autotuned fuel map... as far as I know the wideband is caibrated correctly (per FM's instructions) and rx7 460cc injectors....

any ideas??????????

If that was post cat then you could well have been running 13-1 if no ping was indicated then lean afrs dont mean damage. WB02 coulda been crap as well. Dont be so damn timid at worst you lift when and if you realy have ping, if not then there is alot of goodies you can use to rebuild and it is winter after all.

its a good thing you did lift, if it was really 14:1 you could have burned something up. JUst because it isn't pinging doesn't mean you can't damage it.

- detonation lean af's only serve to give more power, esp at the boost levels we see once we get up into the 15+range we might need to concern ourelves with cc temps being affected enough to melt pistons or valves. but until then knock is most of what you need to watch.

I've heard of several people burning valves at lower boost. I'd rather lift to be safe.

You obviously can deliver enough fuel to the motor with the 460s so your map is probably to blame. I'd compare your wb log to the dyno's wb log and go from there. Also grab a fuel pressure gauge just to rule out insuficient pressure, but I'm betting on the map.

I've replaced a burnt valve on a stock Miata. Lifting was the right thing to do.

I'm loading the map that I was using when I was at the drag strip..... it made it down the 1320 a few times with no issues...... that way I'll at least be safe driving the car on wastegate pressure....

the car made 144hp at 4400rpm.... at 7psi.... and I don't think we even went WOT because of the lean condition....

on a positive note.... it will be tuned tuesday, so I will have numbers and a dyno sheet to scan for you.... we'll most likely be making out the current fuel system, and then backing it off a bit for saftey's sake... I should easily see my 200hp mark.....
