Default Damn Blow Off Valve.

I went to see Artech over the weekend, and he noticed my blow off valve wasn't hooked up. No vacuum coming from anywhere. So when I got home I ran a vacuum line from the intake manifold behind the throttle body to the blow off valve near the turbo.

I was seeing 15psi before the blowoff vavle was connected, now I only see between 7 and 10. Considering my clutch condition this might not be a bad thing but its really bothering me. I adjusted the spring all the way tight, and all the way loose, and the results were very similar. Any idea what could be causing this.

I'm using a Type S Blow Off Valve (Ebay Special) The vacuum line is on the nipple at the top, the the second nipple on the lower section is open. I also tried putting a vacuum cap on the lower nipple.

the boost you're feeding to the top of the BOV is helping push the diaphragm down with the spring so premature opening would be harder in this configuration than no vacuum at all.

Unless the thing is failed, try blowing into the line and seeing if it holds pressure.

furthermore, if you're going to do anything with the lower line, either source it pre-TB (turbo compressor) or just leave it open.

100% User Error, I had a race this weekend, so I let the car sit in the garage. I Got home for lunch today, and started looking at everything, and noticed one of the couplers wasn't as tight as it was when I last checked it. I also noticed the gasket on the BOV didn't look like it was really being compressed. Before grabbing a couple of wrenches I was down to 4psi per Tuner Studio. After I get everything nice and tight, I'm not seeing 16psi again. I actally had to turn down the boost, and my now beloved BOV sounds great!

Lesson of the day. Before you bad mouth your parts, or someone else, check your wrenching!

I did the Texas Half this Saturday morning. Its my first race of the year, I want to do two or three more half marathons, two full marathons, and a few shorter races and adventures in 2010. The goal is 12 races for the year. With four to five of the races being between 13.1 and 26.2 miles long.
