Default Did I screw up my brand new turbo?

Did I ruin my brand new turbo/seals? Long story short, I have a 2000 NB Miata. Previous owner turbocharged it, and it was clear the turbo seals were totally blown. PCV is venting to atmosphere (temporarily, while I figure this out). I installed a new turbo, started it, and then realized that the turbo oil drain line was collapsed. I started to burn some oil in the turbo/downpipe in the few minutes it ran. I fixed the drain line so it can freely flow, but the brand new turbo is burning just as much oil as the old one now. Did I screw up and ruin it? If not, why else would this be happening? There is no sign of oil burning pre-turbo, i.e. in the manifold. So I don't believe it's bad valve seals or another cause.

I have never owned a Miata (much less a boosted one) and I am ready to be humbled by everyone's knowledge. I am aware I am an idiot.

What kind of turbo? BB turbos need a restrictor in the feed line. Journal bearing turbos usually don't but sometimes can benefit from one as well.
