Default DIY Turbo build, questions along the way

What I got so far:

China turbo t25/T28(Bought from OfferUp)
Oil & water lines
Flying Miata manifold & downpipe (New)
CXRacing IC and pipping
MegaSquirt 2

First issue I came across so far. The guy states the turbo bought came off a crash Miata (turbo already came clocked where I want it). Anyways I need to turn the turbine cover so I can mount the wastegate up correctly. Prolblem is when I do that the IC piping will mount on the top of the turbo instead of the bottom where it should be?????Please see pics to see what I’m talking about.

See how if I turn the turbine cover to hookup the wastegate, the IC piping mount will be facing up instead of down where I need it.

Can't tell from the picture but can't you mount the waste gate to the other side of the outlet? You'll have to make your own bracket of course or is the issue your having, the outlet won't be oriented properly? If so, you'll have to re-clock it.

Based on the limited information, I don't think OP realizes that the CHRA will rotate independently of both the turbine and compressor housing.

No, I think that it's because it's a shitty turbo design the wastegate bolts to the front of the compressor housing in only one orientation, but I can't tell that very well from the picture.

I think he knows the chra will rotate but the wastegate is limited in orientation

Ah- so it's the wastegate solenoid mounting point/bracket that may be the challenge..

Ya the outlet is in the wrong direction for my IC piping if I clock the turbo to match up the wastegate to the flap arm. I contacted the seller for a refund. Not to mention some of the turbo was damaged either upon shipment or the seller new about it. No much headache dealing with that. I’ll just pickup up a new turbo.

Any recommends for a descent turbo for my setup above for a affordable price? At the same time I’ll start researching on my own.

Buy a real garett t25 or t28 turbo.

but you will still need to buy an adjustable wastegate actuator bracket. Or something like kinugawa actuator and bracket, to be able to clock the turbo and mount the actuator

Got it- I had this situation and sectioned the WG actuator bracket, rotated the housing where I wanted it and then welded the bracket back together. Ultimately I ended up having to reinforce the bracket since it flexed as delivered and the mod weakened it further. But such is a DIY Turbo Build.

Here's the final result:

So I returned that crap China turbo an came across this Garrett turbo from a SR20det on offerup.

.

No shaft play and was rebuild 3k ago he states. Anyone else running this turbo? Will it fit? Curious is I will have the same issue with the China turbo and the outlet facing in the wrong direction after I clock it

If you would do a little searching on here first, you'd know that is litterally the most used turbo on turbo Miata's.

You will have to reclock and build a wastegate bracket. Turbo is also only worth $100-$150. I have picked several up in that range over the past 13 years.

Do they sell wastegate brackets for it? I have no ideas how to build a bracket

Here is a pre-made wastegate bracket for the GT2560R from Flyin Miata. Im using one on my build. You have to tweak the wastegate actuator arm to get it to fit right.

I'll sell you the T25 on my workbench for less than that shipped to your door.
