Why are those square shapes welded on certain turbo manifolds?
I can't say I've seen it before on any other turbo manifolds except for some that I've seen on this forum.

ctdrftna 01-27-2014 05:17 AM

i think they are there to strengthen the weld joints

TurboTim 01-27-2014 08:01 AM

Because Savington's absurdflow manifold cracked.

yeah and in my case they were added after the manifold was cracked
I think absurdflow adds them from the beginning.

Opgedronken 01-27-2014 04:36 PM

Interesting, although I suspected they were for reinforcement.
I'd say it's just introducing more potential failure points, but I guess I'm wrong :P.

i would love to see a twinscroll Vband inlet for the b1 series.

I don't think many people have done it successfully with the garrett housing yet.

2014 - TiAL Sport is excited to announce that we will be expanding our current line of High performance Stainless Steel V-band Housings to the Borg Warner Line of turbos. Our outline interchangeable housings used in all levels of professional motorsports will include fitments for the BW EFR and BW AirWerks turbo chargers.

I don't need to spend my tax refund on a V-band BW turbo.

Chilicharger665 03-05-2014 03:04 PM

Paging Sav... His turbo kit just got a whole lot easier to make!

wittyworks 03-06-2014 02:09 PM

Does anyone have a 7163 v band inlet in person yet? Looks available on full race website but I just called and the guy said they don't have them in stock, maybe summer. I wasn't talking to raffi or Geoff though, so I don't completely trust whoever I was talking to.

ctdrftna 03-06-2014 02:28 PM

I was on the waiting list for the twin scroll 7163 or a Vband 6758. Neither are in stock both expected sometime in March. That was in January, since then iv dropped my turbo BP plans, I'm selling all my BP shit and dropping in a K24A2. If full race ever emails me back I will post the update though.

twin-scroll 7163 on a subaru and looks like 35psi of boost (ALLOFIT)

Ryan_G 06-16-2014 03:58 PM

I need to reassemble my motor and get my hotside parts back from Abe so I can go for ALLOFIT on a bp. I've got a nice bonus coming soon to fund the other supporting mods I'll need.

I need to message you here soon soviet to pick your brain.

500+ whp should be doable (on dyno, not on track, lol)

It is going to have to be on pump because there is literally no E85 in the area and I don't feel like tuning for a fuel like race gas that I will realistically never use. LOL to 500+ rwhp on the track. I would need a new transmission, rear-end, hacked up fenders for big meaty tires and all sorts of other shit. Not to mention I would probably die after slamming into a wall.

My questions relate more to tuning and fueling in particular.

concealer404 06-16-2014 04:25 PM

Mother of fuck.

I WANT THAT.

18psi 06-16-2014 04:28 PM

You're not going to get anywhere near that on pump.
You might get close spraying the hose down with water/meth/unicorn piss

EO2K 06-16-2014 04:30 PM

And here I am thinking I should have bought the 6758 :bang:

18psi 06-16-2014 04:36 PM

Meh, I think you made the right choice.
400+ is pointless when you can't put it down without breaking the drivetrain.
Sliding all over the road gets old fast too. Even if the difference between them is small, I'd still prefer moar lowend/response/sp00l

Leafy 06-16-2014 04:39 PM

I'm waiting for someone to run a twin scroll EFR9180, we need an 800+ HP 4 cylinder miata.

soviet 06-16-2014 04:39 PM

Yeah, 6258 is the best miata turbo unless you're into measuring dicks. And if you're into measuring dicks, then you gotta compare to mine.

dude, there are like 8 E85 stations in Tampa. Stop complaining. Here in Norfolk, there are 3 stations of which 2 are on Navy bases. Luckily, I found out that the Navy stations are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Where the fuck are these stations. Last time I searched the only ones were on the air force base which is not open to the public. I also technically live in Dunedin and don't want to drive 40 minutes every time I need gas.

EDIT: I just looked again. There seem to be 4 stations within 50 miles. They are all Thorntons which are brand new down here. I didn't realize they brought E85 with them when they came down. This changes everything.

EO2K 06-16-2014 05:50 PM

True, all signs point to 6258. I'm just going to continue worrying about it

55.5mi one-way to the nearest E85 station  What are you guys using to find these stations? Best one I've seen thus far is Flex Fuel Station Finder |-Ethanol Retailer

Full race just posted the 7163 dyno that soviet posted on NABISCO and they said it was a single scroll setup, IWG not twin scroll.

18psi 06-16-2014 06:50 PM

5 stations within 5 miles of home and 3 within 5 miles from work.

can't complain :dealwithit:

No idea. Geoff just posted the dyno and that it was a 7163 (single scroll)

Twin scrolls - 2 out of 3. Even though our site is 100% Miata focused, I still have customers ordering these turbos for other vehicles so it's hard to tell how much of this is from the Miata community.

My 7163 v-band has been with Abe for a while now (Thanks to FAB9) getting some sexy hotside parts made to compliment it. Hopefully, I'll have some pictures to share soon.

EO2K 07-18-2014 12:50 PM

I'm still waiting for the IWG all v-band 6x58 turbine housings to come out... so I can cry about not having one.

wittyworks 07-18-2014 01:15 PM

7163 is on its way to me! I'm going to take my NC off the road tomorrow (7/18) and start the turbo build. Crossing my fingers that the v-band 7163 will be a tiny bit easier to fit into my engine bay than the t25 6758 was.

This is what I am waiting for, along with winning the lottery so that I can afford it.
