Sorry for the vague title, but here goes- I am very soon going to be bolting on my diy turbo setup. Car is a 92 jap model. Using a t25 from a us spec eclipse. I'll be mounting a fmic from the start. And for reference ie; before you ask, I have a self built M/S, a set of DSM 450cc injectors, and I am using 2.5 inch intake tubing. I know 2" would have been easier, but 2.5 was the eBay kit that had all the bends I wanted.

Anyway here is the question. As this turbo has an outlet that points straight forward, and I am using a top mount mani, the intercooler piping will have to go forward from the turbo then down between the A/C comp. and pwr steering pump (so yes I have both), and the rad. And to do this I am going to have to pull the left side rad fan. This is the "main" fan and the 4 blade on the right is the A/C fan right? My plan is to remove both and place the bigger "main" fan on the right side. Leave the A/C fan out for the moment. Worth mentioning I suppose that right now the A/C is actually dead (compressor clutch is dead, have a spare to swap in when it warms up).

So, do the fans swap from side to side ok? as the non A/C cars only come with the one fan, it should be ok as far as cooling goes right? Or at least it will be as good as stock. I am aware that my next big battle will be cooling. Having said that I am in England and it only gets warm enough to need/use the A/C for a couple of months in the summer and even then its really only for demisting the windshield in the rain. So I may not have the same cooling battle you boys in Texas have to deal with (I am from New Orleans and know what that is like, no where NEAR that hot here).

I will eventually get the eBay alum. rad. and a pair of slim fans, but frankly at this stage I just want to get the damn turbo on the car. I have been making sure I was/am ready for any surprise, and buying all the parts to "do it right the first time". But if I pre-plan for every conceivable step of this it will be years before I start bolting things on.

So, move the main fan to the other side, and extend the wires, and it should work right? anyone know better?

 

or just get two low profile 12" fans...

 

No they won't swap because of the radiator inlet neck. You'll be fine with just the ac fan, I think it's just as good as main fan. I doing just that for a couple months. I have a reroute and it's cold here though. But during idle it worked fine to bring the temps down. You need to wire them in parallel anyways.
