Default garret turbo question

Hey, I'm new to these forums. I just bought a 2001 miata yesterday that came turboed and with an aquamist WI kit. the turbo seems to be pretty big for a 1.8L. All I could see on the compressor housing was "M24 A/R 60" I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this turbo and what is comparable to. I have a DB 16g in my WRX, and the Miata turbo seems to be bigger

Any thoughts?

Default Possible identification

Hey- did a quick search, it may be off of a twin turbo 300zx.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/pts/338372279.html

It should be a t3 .60/.63 AR. I picked one up cheap from ebay, having it rebuilt at Alamo Turbo.

that's not syaing much if the turbo int he miata is bigger than the one in your wrx...wrx turbos are not big at all..basically the same size as a 1.6 greddy turbo...aka mittsubishi 15g-tdo4h.

It could be a 300zx turbo. But it looks brand spankin new. And because it says "Garrett" on it, my thoughts are that it's new. could be off ebay though. not totally sure.

Well, It's not the stock turbo in the WRX, it's a Deadbolt superzilla 16g. and I think the miata one is slightly bigger.

I have a friend who thinks that it's a KKK turbo. Any thoughts?

Its not a triple K turbo unless it has triple K written on it. Garret and KKK are 2 different companies.
Does it look like this?

then its either a T2560 T2860 or T3 Super 60, based on your description I will go with T28

it looks like a t3 with one of the larger wheels....

take the compressor housing off, (6) 13mm bolts, and measure the inducer.....

It looks exactly like the turbo pictured. After looking more closley at the manifold and assuming that most basic turbo manifold are a T3 footprint, I've come to the conclusion that it is a T2860. Still not completely sure. but it works.

2860 is a nice turbo, its a good middle ground between a 25 and T3, and if its a BB its also super fast spooling. (Disco Potato) Begi makes a nice SS manifold for a T28 now too.

T3's don't normally have the wastegate cast into them.
