Help!- Upper Radiator hose Interferes with BEGI Cold side tubing
 

I have a DIY coolant re-route using the GM truck hose, and am in the process of installing a hodge-podge of turbo parts on my car.

The BEGI cold side piping seems to interfere with my giant fleabay radiator outlet for the upper hose.

I bought the Oldsmobile radiator hose (Dayco 71519) to see if I could make some 90's and go around the right of the IC piping, but no luck.

Looks like I might have to cut off the radiator outlet and move it towards the driver side by about 1.5". But that would suck.

Seems like I don't want the hot water touching the cool inlet air. Any other ideas for me?

I ran into the same issue with mine when I was dry fitting everything. I came to the conclusion that I was going to have to make a new cold side pipe

Yeah, I found that thread, which is what turned me on to the Oldsmobile hose in the first place. Of course it doesn't fit, so looking for other possibilities...

Trackspeed rad would solve that....outlet is WAY over by the look of them out of the way.

Looks like you may have some room to cut the hose down by maybe too

I had this issue with the FM coldside and coolant reroute. I thought I made a thread about it, maybe not. I remember being okay with just letting them push against each other and forced it. Maybe it is worse in your situation, but looks similar to how mine was set up. I can't imagine the upper radiator hose being so hot as to impact intake air temp, but maybe.

Is it wrong that my solution to nearly every problem is: cut, grind, weld, make fit right..?

That's why it's called "building a car", not "putting a car together by the numbers". Lol

Difference from the post Curley referenced is that the charge pipe there was straight and has a silicone 90 while the begi pipe uses a straight silicone coupler and a 90 on the pipe.

I'm still on a factory radiator and there really isn't any room to fit a reroute hose. You will have to modify the begi pipe or the radiator neck.

Weld steel or aluminum...your choice

Trim an inch and half off the radiator hose such that the end of the radiator outlet JUST reaches the radius of the hose. You might be surprised with the clearance.

Though pliable, I'd imagine the silicone elbow would take up more space than a steel pipe

I'm guessing it is the fleabay radiator that is causing the problem, as there is no way you could even fit the stock non-reroute hose on there without interfering with the IC pipes. Must be that the radiator is built with some serious tolerance on the inlet location. I will have to get someone to cut and weld the inlet pipe on the rad for me.

Pretty much. I long gave up on off the shelf solutions and just hammer in parts from other random cars.

Well, it looks like I was able to come up with a no weld solution. Mainly 'cause I can't weld aluminum.


Went to the local AutoZone and spent a bunch of time rummaging through their radiator hose selection. Ended up finding something that looked like it might work.

Bought a 1-1/4" aluminum coupler on Ebay.

Final install, and attached to the GM reroute hose with the coupler.

Its hard to tell from the pic, but it doesn't actually touch. Its about as close as thou can get without touching though.

Forgot to mention I also filed the end of the radiator a little bit to make it slightly shorter.

With my eBay radiator, I can't fit my pass side fan. Guess in going to have to go with some of the slim fans.

You flushed your radiator out after all that filing right?

Nope, but I did make sure to stuff a rag in the inlet prior to starting the filing. No filings allowed in there.

Looks like we have the same eBay radiator and BEGI cold side pipe. I had to think outside the box. Here is another way to skin this cat.
