The PO of my car screwed up the WP gasket...put a bolt right through it. I guess he didn't notice, and it only completely failed once I got the car. I went to replace the water pump and found the destroyed gasket. It showed up just like a failing water pump.

 

Well I redid it and now it holds pressure at full temperature, so I'm pretty confident I got it right.
