Highest boost on stock timing
#21
Im sure it was less than optimal, but the fact is it worked at that high of a boost level without knocking.. Im sure if he had access to a dyno he could have tuned it to use less WI, and get more power at even a lower boost PSI...
But who else here has daily drove a NON intercooled 12PSI car with no timing retard, and had it stay together very long?
Seems that everyone is always worried about "optimum performance" Where in reality that is hard to acheve, and expensive. And having a less that optimum setup can get you all the performance you need/want...
After looking at all of the DSM turbo parts i have collected and seen, there setups are FAR from optimum, but they sold a ton of them and they stayed together.

thats not really what I meant, maybe optimal was a bad choice of wording. I mean isn't that basically drowning out the air so much that running 12psi would be unecessary? Like he could have run less water and had more air but at a cooler temp from less boost so as not to have needed so much water? Does that make sense?

i am using a jaycar digital fuel adjuster with my 460's and that has about 70 load points, so the resolution is MUCH better, and my car runs nice and smooth.

however, as good as this is, i am building a megasquirt (almost finished) which will supersede this in my car. that will give me timing control as well, and a few other goodies.

Yeah i have backed the spray off before and tried to run it but ran into knock before trying ot pas 10 psi so i just upped my pump pressure a few psi and then knock issues where resolved and power went up. I didnt raise the boost and keep it that way to loose power it made more power and i did my best ot optimize it on all fronts. For the most part i was fuel limited. BTW i was spraying 20% in relation to my fuel laod not my airflow laod in terms of that i wsa at maybe 5% given my pump pressures and the jet ratings. So yeah i wasnt drowing it the plugs stayed nice and happy and the boost was nice and snappy. Hell ASk boostinsteve how he likes his he doesnt retard timming either. i hope as more people try it and get similiar results that it will become abit more mainstream and the price will go down but well see.
