How many china chargers have gone bad?
 

I've been reading up on people's success stories for the china chargers. I haven't seen many negative remarks. Any failures that weren't caused by overboosting or user error? mine has been working well for over 800 miles of boosting. I also havent seen any bad reports of them.

I'm actually curious about this as well. How many have been reported to be defective so far? I know there's no way to tell exactly, but a rough estimate would be great

Lots to read but if you can get through it, and if it's all true, it more or less states that the Garrett turbos are the same as the china turbos on eBay. I'm not sure if that's 100% true but it did convince me enough to not be terribly concerned if I were to buy one.

My first turbo was an eBay chinacharger t25/t28 hybrid, ball bearing unit. I only ran 7 psi on it with a voo-doo box at the time, but the bearings blew out after seriously under 700 miles. I do have a Garrett Chinese knockoff that is on the BEGI website as a GT2854? I have no plans on using this on my car as I have a genuine Garrett on right now, but it's a journal bearing and it can be rebuilt with the exact same kit as the Garrett. In other words, I'd trust the journal bearing one, but I know there are a lot of china BB units that people use and have a lot of luck with. I just didn't have luck with one.

15k miles on a Ebay16g, no oil leaks, looks brand new. Boosting 18 pounds. No shaft play.

Roughly 2.5 weeks now on my ebay t3 (cxracing which i assume is chinacharged) and no problems, no smoking, no leaks, spools good (for what its on lol). Only running on 5lbs right now due to not having any type of boost control other then 5psi wastegate spring.

I know a lot of people running cxracing t3 and t28. All say they are impressed. Not one complaint

I have had a china charger on for a couple weeks now. Only negative is quickly wearing rear tires.

Damn. I was thinking about getting one, but if that's gonna happen.... I guess no Chinacharger for me. :(

i have 2 cars with them, my friends eg hatch has one, and 3 other friends have one on cars ranging from dsm's to crx's. the newest one is 2 yrs. old, the the rest are 3-5 yrs. old. 15k-65k miles on them. all work great. i was the first one to try one among my friends, i figured if it lasted 6mos. i'd be happy since my turbonetics turbo had gone out and i didn't have $800 to replace it.
well, it'll be 6 years old in aug. this year. all the turbo's still work great.

Mine's still running strong.

About 6 months on mine, bought from ilovetacotaco, holding strong.

The only negative side is 3 bent stock rods on the BP block.

- no shaft play

- no oil leaks (mine has the oil feed line restrictor)

Always used regular 5-30W oil.

I realized that now that I say this aloud, the next time I drive my car the turbo will fail...so I need to make sure my garrett is in my trunk.

have been runing a cx racing for a few months on the 240 and it is holding up pretty good. just going to run a sr t25 on the miata though.

We have 70 of these things floating around in the last 16 months. We ran one in house for 11 months with no problems. It was in decent enough shape that we took it off and sold it. Of the units we have sold, two have suspected problems. One, in the UK, which the owner has refused to send back for testing. We will probably never know about that one. The second just got shipped out for testing. I should know more in a few days. I am told if it is a defective turbo from the factory, they will just replace it with a brand new one. Possible/potential 2.9% fail rate if I count the one in the UK. If I do not count it, 1.5% potential fail rate. I'd play those odds. :)

Those are really low rates, and even IF it fails, you can have another for < $200. YOU STILL WIN.
