Watch this video. It should answer most of your basic questions about your Miata.

To own a Miata, do I have to grow that mustache? Do I get a discount for having that mustache?

If you have a 94-97 Mazda 1.8 engine, then it should safely handle 200 psi with proper air/fuel and ignition retard.

You guys are pussies, I go hardcore...1st thing I do is a badass and super safe chrome bar from Moss... then must have a bumpin system...

I still go with C,

but if your serious about max boost there's the simple and true air compressor test. Throw on the compressor, and shoot pressured air into the intake mani. Once the dipstick pops out the turkey's done (insert Maddenism..."boom") and you have your max boost. I'd start small, take the cheap/diy approach and use the guts of a hair dryer and shoot for modest numbers. Once properly tuned then go for the big gains...blender, garbage disposal, then maybe even work your way up to a Dyson, then and only then should you consider such a powerful blower such as the Tornado....but only if tuned by an elaborate ECU such as a powercard...maye even 2 to be safe

The question isn't "How much boost on a stock NA 1.8?" The question is "How much money do you guys think I am going to spend on my miata before I am satisfied?" The answer may include the cost of a divorce settlement, deduction of child support payments, etc.

Back when I was into Turbo FWD Dodges (a few 300+ hp Daytonas) the equation was simple and applies to all cars:

*Crank boost till the headgasket blows
*Replace headgasket
*Back off boost 1 PSI
*Repeat as required till motor no longer argues with your demands...

in the miata world the formula would be:

*Crank boost till the ringlands blows
*build motor
*add more boost
*enjoy

HGs almost never blow.

Oh, no you don't. This thread is saved for posterity. That way, when you are turboed, you can go back and see where you started. I think that you could look at most posters' first posts and see something along these lines.

You'll be fine.

-Fixed-

You left out the comma.

Was that mean? Didn't intend it to be...

C'mon, I'm a noob and I found that info out pretty quickly just from perusing posts for a few days.

Do you still have the Opel? My old roomate back in Colorado and his dad restored one and I used to admire the pictures, the car was in Wisconsin and they may have sold it though.
