Its not that Im pretty sure the 22mm fitting directly in the turbo (which had to be purchased from a HUGE industrial fittings warehouse) has -10 outlet, so it has a -10 to -8 adaptor and then the -8 hose end.

And to be a dick, that manifold would have cost $85 + welding gas and rod to make in the states. :rofl:

I considered divided just to demo the build process even if it had no benefit but didnt have the right bends.

It will be fine, its got plenty of room around it on the entry, and its been done before plenty. Its just usually a sump off spot.

I think this is a pretty cool build, although one thing sticks out to me; All you're proving is that a turbo and MS can be bought for less than 2k.


Everything else is being fabricated (with pretty welds I might add), so it's not like one can say "Anyone can turbo a miata for 2 grand". A master fabricator, with past turbo builds, and a high quality and fully equipped shop, can do so. That's not really a surprise; especially when all your labor is "free".


Kinda like Wheeler Dealers restoring a car, without accounting for the 1-2 grand in labor Ed China performs. In the real world, they'd be underwater on the first car.





To clarify though, it's a cool build, and thank you for posting.

The whole build owes me well under 1500 so far, Its for a customer who is paying me 2000 dollars.

So anyone in australia can turbo their NA for 2k by sending it and 2k to me, or alternatively they can have me fab the manifold and downpipe and do the rest themselves (have an exhaust shop make the crossover or buy a used IC kit). OR in America, buy a begi or fm mani and downpipe, and AGAIN follow the same steps I just said.

What's your hourly labor rate and how many hours are you charging for? I work at about $100 an hour.... so only 5 hours total, not including charges for piping, fitting, etc?

I just have a hard time believing that joe-dundee could jump off his kangaroo; and hand someone a turbo (a few hundred), MS ($1000 ish), and call it $700 bucks for all this custom work; and have a lasting economic relationship. I know you can do this, but aren't you underselling your own labor?


I've done jobs for under book-time before, to help someone out, and that's kinda how I see this. It can be done, just not in the real marketplace. I mean, don't most people pay more for this job? So would you be happy to do this 40hours a week, for $700 a job, when other people would be willing to pay more?
