Well here's my logic, based on the bov maintining the pre throttle boost pressure. Pre throttle it IS compressed to the desired boost level. Then the throttle shuts, the bov lets off additional boost, and when the throttle opens back up you have a larger volume of air at the desired boost level.

Yeah I think something along the lines of that. Maybe they get the wastegate signal pre-throttle too.

Ahh ok, that actually makes a lot of sense now assuming you are doing a lot of 100%-0%-100% throttle work like a WRC car. Nice.

I thought the antilag kept the pre-throttle pressure high when at zero-ish throttle (with a BOV or other pressure relief valve).

I think you're right Tim- race driving ≠ street driving. Anybody who has watched world rally knows that the guys hammer the throttle continuously: ONOFFONOFFONOFF... There's no opportunity for the boost pressure to fall off.
