just got back from the dyno

im a little disappointed in the numbers but i am scared to try to push the completely stock EGT BP. how much further can i expect to push the stock rods before they decide to leave my block? rev limit is set to 7300
edit: im sure specs would be nice... 95 EGT block evo3 big 16g turbo ebay(actual dimentions) 19x7.25x3.5 in and out tube and fin fmic custom 4:1 exhaust manifold made from an EGT stock header manifols that was cut up 2.5" turbo back exhaust, no cat 2 cherry bombs. 38mm open dump waste gate gutted vics manifold https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1336074757 i have an msq of pull 2 and pull 4 that ill upload as soon as i get it off my laptop |
Wow dude, you've just taken a 20 second 1/4 car down to like the 12s and you're disappointed???
Stock rods supposedly snap around 250hp area. That thing HAS to be a crazy son of a bitch!!! |
Dynojet. That's like 80HP on a Mustang. LOL.
JK. Good numbers. |
I bet that's fun :)
What was your boost level for these pulls? Pics of setup or link to a build thread? I'll be tossing my Evo3 setup on the dyno in the next couple of months so I'm curious. |
nice #'s
FYI My 5 spd and rods both crapped out at 225 rwhp with street/autox driving. |
Uh how mich boost is that
|
15psi.
on ewg spring no mbc. with 15* at peak slowly tapering up. this car hauls like a raped ape |

^what he said. lol msq attached
|
yay gratzi
turn to 10psi or expect blowage |
Y torque fail at life after peak? Tiny intake manifold?
|
if that block uses the same rods as the BP, then you're at the upper limits.

With your torque and horsepower tapering off like that you don't need to push it to 7300rpm. No need to be hard on the motor.
|
I told him exactly the same thing when we tuned it: its at the limit.
And yet he's been raping face for over a year on it, absolutely beating on it daily, and its still kickin like a champ. Must be a failflora block:D Did we mention he's on his 11'th transmission?:giggle: I think the biggest bottleneck at this point is the teeny 2.5" exhaust |
I'll take "thread titles never posted by Faeflora for $1000", Alex.

Big and short as possible DP and exhaust.
If you ever build your motor you will not want to rebuild your DP and exhaust too. Once upon a time I thoght 3" was big. Yes there is significant benefit to bigger |
Except he's running an evo16g.
He will be well past its efficiency with anything bigger than 3", and has even less room to work with than we do. Just do a smooth taper to 3" as soon as possible on the downpipe and run the rest 3" JT. I think it should get the job done just fine. But before anything else, your next mod should be h-beam rods. No ifs ands or buts about it. |

No ifs ands or buts about it. That's not my point. I mean if he decides to go to a bigger turbo in the future there are big spool advantages. It also doesn't cost too much more at all |
bigger turbo is going onto his 1600lbs FE3 powered spitfire.
in the form of a big a$$ holset. winning |
That's pretty impressive. Nice.
|
i cant add too much more power... already had to re weld the drivers side frame rail where it has separated from launching too many times

I am sure he can help you with your frame rail there, pardner. He's the quickest draw there is back east. They call him The Sawzall Kid... |
Cant you use the EGT or Protege tranny in the festiva with a BP swap??
|
i am using the BP EGT/protege tranny... i was using the older cable G series trannies from the 323GT/capri XR2. they all have the same internals except the cable trannies have a 3.85 final drive where the hydraulic trannies(protege/escortGT) have a 4.10. the kia sophias have a 4.35 and has the same case yet slightly slightly stronger than the pro/EGT.

|
did you air em down enough?
2.0 '60 on slicks is pretty weak. |

shoulda had someone sit on the front of the car lolol
|
What's with the crazy peaks? The spinning?
Pics of manifold? |
...things so sick. I need good vidz, NOW!
|
its a mazda 323 gtr manifold. ill get some sand bags or some extra straps to hold the front down
http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0019_large.jpg |
Hmm, never seen one. Thanks. I guess there's really no easy way for that to fit on a Miata lol
|
nope... goes the wrong way. but the manifold is pretty short so maybe a sharp u shaped coupler or something to that effect
|
finally got the dyno video

I have an unhealthy desire to build a BP-powered Festiva. The only thing keeping me away is the total lack of decent tranny options :( |
was that the one i traded you?

The only thing keeping me away is the total lack of decent tranny options :( They're always completely and totally trashed yet the seller wants top dollar. Are there really ANY good tranny options? I was of the assumption the EGT was but I guess not? Oh, LOL @ Dyno video. GO....waiting....waiting...waiting...FULLLLLL BOOOOST! |
You need rods and e85 in your life justin. DO IT FGT
|
looks way laggier than it is. the run started at 1800rpm
the best tranny option is get an adapter plate and run a turbo MR2 tranny. which is dimensionally impossible in the festiva. engine+plate and trans ends up being 5" wider than the distance from frame rail to frame rail. im working on rods fool. im gettin LSD first. taller gearing and LSD will make it a more reliable rape all on freeway rolls |
f*ck YES.
call me tonight loverboyeee, luzl |

Hmm.. |
please post more info on your car bro
|
I love it when the rear end grenades!
|
the open diff grenades. no stock lsd option. a band aid is to weld the diff pin to the carrier. i have had 3 fail so far with just the pin welded to the carrier so i have been welding a little spot in the center section of the pin so it cannot eject past the spider gears.
everything that says custom i made 93 ford festiva, custom cross member and engine mount, custom turbo manifold made from stock header, EscortGT/Protege/Sophia BP05 with kia valve cover, intake and exhaust ports gasket matched, intake and exhaust manifolds gasket matched, EVO III big 16G, Tial 38mm open wastegate, custom 2.5" exhaust with 2 cherry bomb mufflers, 3" ams oil cone filter, ebay intercooler(3" in and out/3" charge pipe), ebay civic radiator, walbro 255 fuel pump, ms1v3.0, 1000cc EV14 fiveO injectors, toyota COPs(wastespark) street tuned by Drunk Russian Performance, mazda 323 GTR intake manifold, spec stage 3+ clutch, hydraulic trans(escort GT, BP protege/sophia) custom converted to run as a cable clutch to save space, custom shift linkage and shifter, mercury capri XR2 intermediate shaft and axles, custom intermediate shaft bracket to engine, reinforced gas and clutch pedals, full custom poly front end bushing kit, custom 1.5" extended front strut top hats, honda civic ebay springs and sleeves up front on festiva KYB GR2 struts, 94 nissan maxima rear shocks with 96 integra GSR springs, Ford aspire front brakes/hubs, Ford aspire rear dead axle with brakes, interior is gutted except the two front seats, 10.5" Grant Jr drag steering wheel on custom hub, instrument cluster is stock festiva except for the NA miata tach and protege 140mph speedo. turboXS knock lite, honda prelude front seats, original shifter is now my hood prop. pretty sure thats it. |

I have a couple crappy clips from when I was tuning it:
vs a big turbo (t70 or something) b16 civic 400whp CTS-V another 400whp CTS-V and another run I have been in this car for over 20 different races, and it STILL scares the bejeezus out of me every time we go out. And I've been in my fair share of "scary" cars. I hope JT posts up some more vids or links or something ,this car pretty much street races every single weekend and hits the strip every other wednesday. Everyone in town knows it |
forgot about the CTS-V's...that was a fun night... and to think i have an extra 20ish whp since then and the power doesnt fall like a rock at redline like it used to.
the fastest ive clocked on GPS was 163. not really by choice. a new V10 M5 wanted to run and i took a fender on him and was not willing to give it back. he let off when i hit my 7k rev limit and shot a fire ball out my bozo. i consider that a win. |
please, please, please post more pics of your car. the kind of pics you'd take if you were selling it.
