Default knock sensor on 99

Maybe u guys can help me because m.net didnt even answer. Does the knock sensor pull timing at any point throughout the rev range or only at certain points? My other question is does it pull timing until knock i completely gone or only a few set degrees? If the knock sensor also controls timing why do u guys(99 and up) worry about engine managemnet with timing adjustability? Thanx

Not sure about the specifics of the stock Miata but most pull only above a specific rev range and many have a max range too.

Knock sensors are a failsafe. You never want to depend on them to set your timing.
