Lets talk about air filters...

My new setup is together and running, but I haven't came up with an air filter setup for it yet. My turbo has a 2 bolt flange on it (its a s15 Nissan gt2560 compressor). I'm really lazy since my car runs again, and was thinking of just using a piece of door screen bolted to that flange. How bad of an idea is this?
Spend 2 minutes on eBay and order a cxracing adapter, 90degree silicone elbow and AEM dryflow filter. Drink beer and wait for the delivery truck. Spend 2 minutes installing above parts. Profit.

Lol at Vlad commenting. Did you forget about your screen intake on your godspeed 3076?
I'm gonna order parts. I have the filter, I just need an elbow and the adapter. I'm just talking about a rig that'll work for like 2 weeks, so if I decide to drive it to work one day, I can.

Well, this is your smoky motor so I guess you could do a screen door if you want...but the car has been on blocks for so long what would it matter to wait a few more days for parts to arrive?

You should've already known how this thread was gonna go before you even clicked it. I post seeking a suggestion, I get opinions, I do what I posted about anyway.
I just don't see why it could be a bad thing. A screen would keep bugs and stones and anything that could damage my compressor blades out. It's supposed to be like 65* by the time I leave for work, so I'm thinking about getting a sticker thrown on my car, cause it's been out of inspection since March, and just making the maiden voyage be a drive to work. That'll seat my new suspension and break in my new turbo.

Ive seen a lot of cars run with zero filter, not even a screen.
Would I do it every day? In the rain? Down a dirt road? No.
Like usual, MTnet rhetoric degrades into kindergarten black-and-white bullshit.

If you're not willing to wait a few days, just don't use one.
Chances of sucking in the screen vs getting a rock or sand... Eh
I see a lotta cars around this area have the open compresser forward facing in the front bumper. Probably on the retard side of the border doing that.
