just trying to clear up something:

before installation, should my timing be at 10* btdc or 0*?

1.6 motor.

I kept mine at 10 and then reset after it was up and running.

what do you mean? you left it at 10 then moved it 0?

I kept my timing at whatever it was set at. I'm assuming it was 10 because I never changed it. The Link's timing map starts at 0 so you will be running your current timing plus the Link's setting. My car pinged a little. That's OK because the car is not under any load. Get your car up to idle temperature. Back your timing off to 10 degrees using the marking on your crankcase just like you would set it any other time. I can email you the instructions if you like.

thanks!

i had mine set at 18* for so long. feels entirely too slow now. i sent the ec to ken hill to check my modifications. i couldn't get the AT sensor to read.
