Default Looks like us DIY guys are starting to make some power!

I made 294whp @ 16psi
MarkP made 296whp @ 17psi
Airbrush made 260whp @ 12psi

Thing is we all have a lot more headroom to make a lot more power. I know I personally am shooting for 350whp next spring when I get some more goodies for my car. I am so glad that this forum likes to make power, because over at the other forum....well....they are happy with 180whp JRSC's and 220whp FM turbos.

Call me prophetic, but I see you shopping for transmissions in the near future at 350whp (given your current torque). I hope to be on the dyno next month (need to get the new clutch in and the EBC working). Wasn't Mark at 20psi?

I should be on a dyno within a few weeks. should be just over 200rwhp. And don't forget Tom (Bgrracer) I know it's a Greddy kit, but I mean, what's not stock on it, the turbo and manifold, the rest was completely DIY.

hmm....are you all running similar turbo's?

im hoping for 230whp or so on 14psi on a GT28R (tec 3, gti-r intercooler and 2.5" exhaust)

Airbrush, Markp and I are all running t3/t4 57 trims w/stage 3 turbines. I'm running a .48AR turbine housing w/internal gate. Markp was running a 38mm external gate and .63 AR turbine housing on his dyno pull. Don't know exact specs for airbrush.

Would an upgrade to moly gears in a transmission be enough to handle the 350 HP. I've only talked to one fellow that had done it and he did it because he speed shifted his car all the time and was killing the tranny monthly. Anyone ever read of upgrading to a non-synchro doggear/dogtooth setup with the miata tranny?

dog gears will take more power because the teeth are allowed to be wider (lack of synchros) but keep in mind if you lack the technique to rev match constantly you will wear out the gears

Yeah, that's the way it was in my buddy's mustang. His straight cut gears were ridiculous, but it felt so awesome to shift like that with his triax short shifter that I always wondered what the Miata would be like with a similar setup.

I am the only one thats running a different turbo...mine is a Garrett GT3271 w/ a 43lb compressor wheel. The 57 trim they are running flows right around 50lb/min so they have a slightly higher flowing compressor...but I spool sooner.

.63 AR also.... and 38mm wastegate...

Just as long as I'm not engine shopping I'll be happy!

I think its because the lemmings with their dictated turbo sizes were making to much heat and not enough flow to make power.

way to go

I should be in the 250whp range. Still need to dyno one of these days. I imagine it will get done after christmas. I still have a bit of leak from the wastegate flange that needs to be fixed. I've got the slightly smaller 50 trim T04E with the .48 exhaust with a 38mm gate. I have contemplated throwing a WI setup on there and seeing if I could get a few more out of it, without having to increase the pressure much further (12psi) .

Ya, I know there is a lot more in my untuned setup and I suspect that the BEGi Manifold will allow me to extend the torque out past 7000 RPM (that is the hope at least) otherwise I'll need some cams and cam gears to make it happen. I think I know better... leave it to the engine and dyno to prove me wrong.

is your car still a daily driver?

(this question applies to anyone who has breached the 200 hp barrier)

Mine was my DD for over a year. It would be my commuter for my 70 mile drive to college weekly, but I always ride with my girlfriend. If you have enough control over your foot, it could drive like a factory miata.

Daily driver it is, it's the only car I have, I've been boosted for about a year with no problems, just have to remember to keep the foot light especially on wet roads.
