I want one for my VVT! I have the same round coils.

curly just to clarify, they are the D514A coils, correct?
|
Correct.

Not as narrow of a niche market as you might think. Where can us peasants order a set?
Also, are those stock plug wires? |
"Stock" replacements from Magnacore, yes.
NGK blues also work, $32 from 949racing.com. I'm not sure if Singular is planning on making more sets or not, you'll have to ask Ryan, aka ThePass. They're pretty awesome if you ask me, and it was great to pay a few bucks and have someone make something pretty in my head also pretty in real life. |

We made a batch of those coil brackets and have already sold a couple sets to others who contacted us directly to get them.
The brackets fit all valve covers 1990-2005, clear the hood with room to spare, and per Josh's request they allow the coils to clear the VVT tube without need for any modifications (FM's bracket requires that you cut this line and reroute). Nothing particularly fancy, just all the dimensions exactly where you want them in a nicely finished piece (it is sitting on the top of your motor after all) :) Haven't put them up on our site quite yet, whether we will make more once this batch is sold out has yet to be decided. For now, if you'd like a set just PM me your email address for a paypal invoice. -Ryan |
Sooo Ryan,
Any chance an adaptation could be made for D585 coils??? Might just need to do a soviet bracket. Rust included. |
Since the D585's mounting holes are top/bottom rather than front/rear like the D514A, we would need a set here for test-fitting and to design a different version of the bracket. But, we're still just figuring out whether there's enough demand for the existing version before we'd take a look at other variations. And after all, the LS non-truck coils work great, so I'm leaning towards the "you should buy the D514A coils" stance ;)
I've only test fitted the LS2/LS7 D514As here, but perhaps someone else can confirm that the D510C (which is the LS3 coil that FM uses for their kits) has the same bolt spacing? If so, those should also fit this bracket, without any of the VVT/EGR non-compatibility of the FM stuff. -Ryan |

Yes, they'll fit, cause I have FM's bracket as well, and the D514a coils fit fine, they're just too fat.
My guess is these singular brackets should be fine for D510C coils, it'll just need longer spacers. Currently the spacers between the coils are 1.4", and the 4 between the brackets and outside coils are 1.2". I use a cheap pipe cutter from Home Depot/Harbor Freight like so: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1425671203 And can whip out the 10 spacers in 10-20 minutes, depending on beer consumption. I'm sending a PM to Ryan about the VVT fitment, there may be a small amount of interference with the CAS plug. |

I had a set of D585 tabs and when test fitting to figure out a mounting bracket on top of the rocker cover, realised that there was bugger-all clearance with the D585 tabs and the hood/bonnet so ordered the D514As. |

Here's my version of curly's "singular" mount:
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1425723526 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1425723526 I have a Carbing 3-point Front Strut brace so had to mount my CNPs "upside down" to allow me to plug in the harness at the rear. The brackets are made from 3mm aluminium, the threaded rod is 6mm diameter and the spacers are from an eBay LS2 D514A mounting kit. The kit came with 2 brackets (fitting 4 CNPs per bracket and 6 spacers per bracket) and using 4 spacers per rod fit perfectly with no trimming required. I allowed an 8mm gap between the lowest point of the CNPs so that I could attach the harness but forgot that the harness' locking tab angles outward so the tips touch the rocker cover :( I was planning on buying some longer rocker cover bolts since the brackets are 3mm thick so I'll probably add some washers under the brackets to prevent the harness' locking tab ends touching the rocker cover. The setup is very solid and hopefully the 3mm aluminium bends wont stress fracture at the bends due to vibration. Not sure whether to paint the brackets Wrinkle Black or just hit them with a wire brush drill bit to give them a horizontal scratch finish. At the moment I'm leaning to the latter since long-term it's far more durable. |
In Australia we use a standard measurement of bees dicks to measure things that have marginal clearance. Is it the same in the US? Not sure if they are erect bees or not...

Looks good Lokiel!

Today's plan was to make the harness using the pigtails that came with the D514As I bought. I gave each wire a light tug to test them and two of the buggers pulled right out so I chucked them in the bin and ordered a set from Ballenger Motorsport (as referenced in this thread).
Having a few hours to kill I figured I may as well "sex up" the CNP brackets a bit since they looked a little bland and chunky: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1425793329 I was hoping to achieve a brushed finish on the brackets using a wire brush drill bit but it ended up much finer than I wanted - looks better than the unfinished version though. The colour should even out more as the surface of the aluminium oxidises. Also, my counting seems amiss, in the previous post I should have said "5 spacers per rod", not "4 spacers per rod". |
