Default Mazda 1.5 vs 1.6 DOHC differences

Hi folks, sorry to post a MX-3 question on a Miata forum but I know the engines are similar and figure I might be able to get some help here since these forums are a lot more active that the MX-3 ones.

I currently have a Mazda MX3 1.6 DOCH engine (1994) which is turbocharged. The engine is currently a bone stock engine and runs around 7/8psi.

I have access to a spare 1.5 DOHC engine out of the Japanese version of the MX3, the AZ-3. I believe the engine code is B5-ZE.

I am considering building this engine to run a lot of boost, my question is will the forged rods and forged pistons and ACL race bearings that are available for the Miata 1.6 DOHC work in this engine? Any other parts you would suggest that I purchase for the engine build?

Please advise.

2 reasons really

- The 1.5 DOHC B5-ZE is actually supposed to produce more power than the 1.6 DOHC B6ZE currently in the MX-3.

- Also it is a spare engine that I have access to so I can build while still driving around the car.

I can't answer your question but it seems like a big waste of time and money. You can find 1.6 MX3 engines all over the place for uber cheap. If you wanted to be serious about building a motor, get a Japanese KLZE motor, build it up, and boost that.
