Default Miata diy turbo help

Hello, I am a newly acquired miata owner. I have recently been a Dsm'r so i never had to deal with N/a to FI swaps of any kind and i think i got a little ahead of myself. I've been doing a lot of research, but my eyes are starting to bug out so i figured i would just make a post on here, This is what i have and need help with.

I have a 1.6 currently in my miata, I plan on swapping in a 1.8 out of a escort gt it is a 96 motor.

I have all of the parts to swap this motor in and i know how but i would like to turbo it before i start this swap. I am going to run the 1.6 ecu and harness coil ect...

As far as the turbo parts i have:

td05h turbo
450 cc low imp injectors and resistor box to swap to low imp
exhaust manifold t25/27 flange
turbo back exhaust
fmic and ic pipes
walbro fuel pump
bov
wideband
boost controler

I do not know if i need an EMU or if i can/need to get my ecu chipped to run boost. I know i do for the injector and will need a FPR still

I thought that i may be able to get away with a MAF translator and wideband...

I noticed a knock sensor on my engine and was wondering if i could hook that up to my ecu or if i would need an safc

Also i have a auto escort 1.8 block with the cast crank i didn't know if i put a lightened flywheel onto it if i would have any balance problems on the crank?
the cast crank is supposed to be like 10 lbs lighter and i was going to go with a 9 lb flywheel. i figured the lighter the better but there may be a balance issue i do not know? I will be running an aftermarket clutch and pressure plate, i have no idea which yet tho.

also if i ran protege cams would that compliment my motor with being turbo'd. I noticed quite a big difference from my factory escort cams.

If you need more info just let me know and i would be happy to fill you in, anything to get this project done before summer ends. it started with pleanty of money now im kinda on a budget so the cheaper the better without losing reliability, i can always upgrade later

So...much...wrong...don't....know...where....to... start....

You can't chip a miata computer, you can in fact do nothing to it. Absolutely nothing. You'll need something either mechanical or electrical to raise the amount of fuel going into the engine as you raise the amount of air going in (boost). Your list is good so far, as long as you can figure out the 1.8 swap, clutch, and cams. There's only a few members on this board that know about escorts/proteges, you'll have to go to a forum specific to them, or find the ones on here that now what they're talking about for cam and swap information.

The only thing you need to add to your list is the device to raise your fuel. For mechanical you can use something like a Vortech unit which requires you to swap out discs to change your fueling, or an infinitely adjustable unit like BEGI's. We'll all suggest the electronic version, called a Megasquirt. As a bonus, it does a fuel more things than just fuel too! It'll replace your stock ECU for roughly $300 if you know how to solder. $500 if you don't and you need someone to do it for you.

Good luck.

Thank you, Ive never used mega squirt or anything like it. I was thinking i would have to get it. So pretty much your saying megasquirt and my list will be complete? As far as the swap itself is not hard ive coverd all of the parts already and am currently preping the motor. I am following a walkthru that uses same year motor and body so it not bad, the only thing is... His was N/a

Edit: Any help pointing me in the right direction of which mega squirt i would want to use would be great...

pnp for the simplest install, MSII is all you really need for a good setup. MSI would be fine too, its what a lot of us still have, but the price difference is nill.

Yes I think that completes the list, assuming you install everything correctly, as well as tune it safely. Only thing I'd change is the injectors. Keep with high ohm injectors to not risk any reliability issues from the resistor box. Understandable if you already have them though. Whatever you choose, I'd have them shipped to a company that can clean and balance them.
