That was a quick reply. Yeah you need to draw a line that matches the one in bumper on the bottom and then take out a little more on the top corners so it matches the lines of the hood. Reason I asked is it's not the first time I've seen the exact same thing.

Ben 09-21-2007 09:52 AM

Dave, that thing is nasty. How's the V-mount working out so far?

You better get used to being pulled over. A lot.

Splitime 09-21-2007 09:54 AM

With dog in car, I didn't bother taking logs and tuning on the way home. So no real boost yet.

Normal driving... i get almost 0 fluctuation in temperatures. The real test is on track though, hopefully thats where the setup shines.

Ben 09-21-2007 09:58 AM

my dog loves boost. he puts both his front paws on the pass door, and rests his head on the sideview mirror. and I gun it.

he used to stand up on the seat and put his paws on the top of the windshield, but he would fall over a lot.

My little guy is the one from the valve cover pictures, he's 12lbs and 7mths old now. All he wants to do is sit in the drivers lap... which he did the entire drive.... with me in a 5pt harness and the ultrashield :p.

When I start to tune it and such, I prefer to have the laptop open next to me for random checks, then datalogs and then work. Dog in car = not conducive to getting that done.

Newbsauce 09-21-2007 10:32 AM

This may be a moot point but a single large exhaust in the middle makes it look like your car has an asshole. :ugh2:

Well, its a gay car isn't it... I may as well prep it for some action....

yeah, sorry, im not a huge fan of the cut up and chopped up style you got going. but under all of that, it's all awesomeness.
where in chicago are you, i cant wait for the day u pass me on the highway. after my friends stop laughing, i can tell them y it is a cool car. lol

The only way I'll pass you on the highway is if you drive under the speed limit. The only place you'll see this car be pushed is on track.

bradh88 09-22-2007 09:46 PM

thats probably a good choice, but it was more just to get the point across :)

That sounds sorta thin doesn't it? It was a Home Depot piece... might have been thicker .. but i can't remember.

Splitime 10-27-2007 03:34 PM

10psi was fun... lots of tuning needed... but I think its overly rich enough for some full pulls to log.

Splitime 03-19-2008 01:45 PM

Ok... old photo host is flaking... I'm putting it all on Photobucket.

Here is the album link, if I could edit old posts I'd do that... so sorry. All build pictures will go into this album.

So I got lucky at the junkyard the other day and picked up some "beauty" items.
Clean red passenger fender
Red doors! No more orange :p
Red finish panel ( couldn't believe it was on the car)

Also picked up another set of wheels for it. Something to use for trackwheels once I run outta rubber on the panasports. Everybodys favorite wheel!
Attachment 213890

If I get motivated tomorrow, I'll put the stuff on (minus the wheels). No more fender mirrors, as they were a fix to a bad door setup. Back to normal manual mirrors. And if i get them all on, I'll update pics some.

Splitime 03-30-2008 07:07 PM

Since people seem to only care about pics.... ;)
Added everyone's favorite wheel ;) (came with 205s, being all seasons I gave them to the wife, her 195s came to them so i could peddle around)
Headlight covers 90% done (final fitment needed)

how do you jack your car up so high?

edit: Just read through the thread again... WOW

Trent 03-30-2008 10:44 PM

are you going to flare it?

Heh, its actually was a hair lower than stock(even though nb springing is supposedly taller?). Koni cup kit dealy for NBs with NB tophats. Revalved to SPSS3 (race) valving ;) Spring changes to come later, once i start to play in car.

Super:
Might flare it, depends on how well the Louisville Slugger modding goes later. Those wheels/tires are just to roll around on. Eventually they'll get real rubber for track... but I still have R stuff to burn through first.

Heh, I was just thinking of the reaction you'd get from CR.net about your ride height and wheel fitment. lol.

Tell me about it ;) Car doesn't go lower until I work out real spring rates and bushing details.

MX_Eva 03-31-2008 09:25 AM

Car is sick as fuuuuuuuk

Needs more bolt on fender flare in flat black! and 16 x 10 inch wheels.

Also what kind of under tray do you have, if any? With this much done I'd start looking at flattening out my under body. Depending on how my business proposal goes I may have some pretty bomb info for anyone looking for aerodynamic advantages with a full time race car.

I'm still unsure what undertray route, if any I'll go. I did pickup some cool corrugated plastic (looks like corrugated cardboard, is 1/2 thick and strong... enough for splitter/tray.. we'll see).

I need to finish my upper IC ducting and the lower rad/bumper/IC ducting first though.

I meant how do you get it so high up on the jack stands :giggle:

MX_Eva 03-31-2008 09:56 AM

Hehe, I was going to comment on that earlier, but figured you knew you needed to shroud up the V mount to prevent air from just by passing your sweet set up.

I really like what you've done. It's all the cheap "diy" stuff that I've thought about doing but don't have the fab skills to do myself...or the somewhat dedicated purpose to the miata. If you need help brainstorming undertray ideas I've had some floating around waiting to be played with to see overall effectiveness. If you get it right should only go to help the flow you're looking for across the radiator, and pull down engine bay temps.

Ever given any thought to venting out the fenders?
http://thepassionatepursuit.com/imag...xus-sc-430.jpg

Chop em on the body line and space it out some. Seal up the bottom completely? *shrug* would match the nature of the car :bigtu:

I've seen it done on a GTS Corolla, thought it could be done pretty easily on the miata as well, trying to find pictures.

Oh, when we were working on it. Big jackstands, and doing it with 2 rounds of jacking up. One up as high as i could, onto stands. Then using wood on top of the jack to go even higher, then tossing the big jackstands under.

Splitime 03-31-2008 10:08 AM

MX, had thought of doing this at some point.

Well, added a 2nd set of driving lights in the turn signal area, so maybe the dual driving lights will be nice for night driving.

Ebay short shifter went in, suprisingly nice piece. I think I'm going to see about getting an extension for it made, as it is a 2 piece unit and could just be turned into a FLP (fastline performance) style shifter. Puts the shift knob almost at center of wheel level and just off to the side, goofy looking... but nice for quick shifts.

Also dropped a regular battery in...
http://www.autozone.com/images/produ...i8amu1r003.jpg

Tossed a new alternator belt on.

Nice thing though... car started up on about 1-2 seconds of cranking... its been sitting since last fall. I love it :) Won't idle yet, needs cold start tuning first... but i can hold it a 2k without issue.

Tonights attempt list:
driving light electrical, hood vent duct, main ic/rad ducting, ebc wiring, attempt at tps wiring (this one i have some homework to do for the nissan tps)

cjernigan 04-03-2008 11:44 AM

There is a guy selling some cheap shifter extensions on ebay that fit the miata shifter. I have seen the ebay short shifters and like them as well but I don't know if they are the same thread as the miata to use the extension sold on ebay. I too which my shifter was about 6" higher so it was closer to the steering wheel. If anything just for track/autox days.

It would probably be the simplest solution, and I have thought about it. I'm sorta thinking of doing it off of the lower half of the shifter itself. Just for strength. That way as I increase the height, my attachment point isn't the thinner threaded area of the shiftknob section, but the wider/stronger area in the middle that joins the shifter together.

Low priority though, just my mind getting carried away ;)

cjernigan 04-03-2008 12:14 PM

I know exactly what you're talking about. I see it as you have two options, retain the weight of the heavier top piece and deal with a skinny extension that might break. Or remove the heavy top piece, replace it with a steel shifter extension to regain the weight lost and enjoy it in all of it's glory. Sounds like a plan to me. I still have the stock shifter myself so I haven't crossed that bridge. I just no that shifter with the top piece removed with no weight added back to it would suck.

Splitime 04-03-2008 12:16 PM

Yah, a weighted shift knob can help with that. I love the heavy skunk2 knob that has lived in my last 2 civics, overpriced... but the weight is so nice.

This is the FLP for people curious btw.

I can see the time savings of reaching "over" rather then "down", but damn does that look awkward to learn :)

JDMAflac 04-03-2008 12:35 PM

That's exactly what I wanted! Very neat piece, high quality.

If you like two handed driving like I do then I bet you would actually prefer it over your current low shifter.

Newbsauce 04-03-2008 12:44 PM

Using two hands while driving? damn never tried that :)

Just put the miotta on active insurance... weather looks like crap this weekend... but I'll try to get the partial throttle tuning under way.

Left to do before this first drive:
Reinstall VC
Install/setup Catchcan setup
New coolant overflow
mount/secure ducting between IC/Rad
swap door lock cylinders

Braineack 04-11-2008 03:41 PM

and more pics.

Splitime 04-11-2008 04:09 PM

Lol yeah, some actual on the road pictures at some point... or ones that aren't in a dark garage.

Splitime 04-11-2008 04:13 PM

Oh and take a baseball bat to the fenders and roll them some.

Here is a shot of it actually out and about. (background is AMS the big Evo tuner shop)

Oh... and ordered some flares to try out today. Going to see if they fit/work on the miata and the 240... if so... both cars get flares :p
These flares....

Hehe.

supra441979 05-12-2008 06:05 PM

That datsun is sick!

y8s 05-12-2008 09:01 PM

Dave I know this is totally irrelevant and not important but you've really gotta trim that front cut in your nose to follow the detail in the bumper.

Splitime 05-12-2008 09:09 PM

Heh. I dun wanna!

I'm also considering adding some hole saw openings right to the middle of the bumper... and when I do a bumper bar under there... mount my oil cooler right behind the middle of the bumper.

m2cupcar 05-12-2008 10:06 PM

definitely needs more holes :bigtu:

or here, the easy way- evo-esque

m2cupcar 05-13-2008 11:58 AM

Yes, working too much and rebellion has set in. I'd be fired if it weren't for self employment. 4 hours gone and about 1 hours work to show for it (not included your pro-bono photoshop work ;) ).

Splitime 05-13-2008 12:05 PM

Since I know you probably wish to procrastinate more... I had started on it yesterday... but try to fit those Z flares on the miata... :p

ApexOnYou 05-13-2008 09:41 PM

I take it you had it at AMS for the dyno, or are they tuning it?

Splitime 05-13-2008 10:01 PM

Neither. Was heading out for a meeting point for a local boards drag day meet.... rain drove everyone off. I used it as an excuse to drive the car around.

I'm tuning the car myself. I'll probably get it on a local shops new dyno dynamics setup.

ApexOnYou 05-14-2008 12:58 AM

Cool, I see now. I was going to ask their dyno rates (but I suppose I can just look on the website) since the last local dyno closed last year, and AMS isn't too far away.
