Default Manifold design questions

Hello, trying to make me own manifold for my 1.8 miata which currently is in bits in the garage. I have a few questions if i may, I did/look search and look for few months but feel like my head may explode soon, literary explode ( not alakbar type of explosion)

Quite fancy having a go at simple manifold from bends and tees, now what im wondering is it a good idea to try and separate the gasses from cyl1 and cyl4 by having some sort of baffle to divert the exhaust gases up towards the turbo?

I saw a lot people put the turbo over cyl2, is there a reason for this besides making the dp routing much easier ?

I was thinking in my head to cut the bends and tees quite short and to have a thick flange maybe 1" so to make some sort of collector, would this be a waste of time ?

Other questions is ss vs mild, can I just go ss without back purging ? keep reading mild steel flanges and ss tees and bends

And lastly, looking to make a my own exhaust, is it advisable to go v band or 3 bolt flange

Thanks in advance, great site

Kev

1) no
2) ease of install and dp routing
3) no idea what you're saying there
4) ss is a pain to weld, and more expensive
5) vband

You dont need to backpurge SS. But it will look like ***. and flow like ***, and possible chunk off and trash your turbo
