Default MTX-L E8 Failure

A few months after installation my MTX-L started acting erratically. After 5-10 minutes of driving, it throws the E8 code. The code goes away after every power cycle and slowly comes back. Sometimes before throwing the code, AFR values will start getting obviously incorrect (usually towards the rich side.) I thought my sensor was toast so I installed a new one and recalibrated. Unfortunately, the exact same thing started happening. My sensor is at 12 o clock and is as close to the cat as physically possible. The bung is extended.

So what's going on? Electrical problem? Wideband controller is kill? I've been considering buying an AEM but they're ugly as all hell. Solutions to my problem and suggestions of nonugly/cheap controllers are welcome.

Innovate sucks, what I would recommend is out of stock probably. 14point7 something or another.

You might be able to add a delay circuit so the sensor isn't turned on and heating any time the key is on, but innovate is so damn picky with sensors I doubt it makes that much of a difference.

Innovate runs a proprietary measuring scheme on bosch sensors, different than pretty much everyone else uses. People speculate that's why they are so much more sensitive.

How’s the condition of your bung? I had one damaging sensors every time it was threaded in. They’re also supposedly compatible with both 4.2 and 4.9 sensors? Unsure on that, but I saw it in a quick search. Check your wiring too.

consider a 14.7 or LC2 inline, or AEM X-series inline if you’re concerned about looks.

I'm not sure which controller you're talking about.

Everything is newish. Maybe 1 year old now but the car has only been running for half of that. I thought it might be a wiring issue but I have no idea what to look for.

Additionally, my bung is actually more in an 11:30 position so the left tip of the oxygen sensor sometimes hits my chassis. That *might've* caused the issue but it wouldn't explain why the issue reappeared so quickly after replacing the sensor.

Hijacking my own thread to complain about more problems. My oil dipstick handle broke and my dipstick fell into my oil pan and got stuck in there. I tried removing the dipstick tube but it does not want to come loose (the nut is off and the dipstick wiggles around on the X and Y but i can't pull it up on the Z.) Maybe the dipstick is stuck to the tube as well and is keeping the tube stuck to the pan? I'm considering getting a mechanic to yoink the whole thing out and just flushing whatever metal breaks out of the pan. It's looking like either that or I pull my engine to remove the pan.

There's also the issue of 100hp disappearing into thin air, but that's for another time.

Innovate is completely hit or miss. Once it starts throwing the E8 error, it's gone. I've had good luck on my car, but I guess I'm the exception. I would recommend the AEM as well, if you think it's ugly you may try finding just a replacement Innovate gauge alone and not the entire kit.

I had this EXACT same issue. I fixed it by switching to aem.
no problems and a fraction of the heat cycle

MTX-L are veeery easily affected by electrical issues. How is it wired in? Did you use direct battery connections and a relay to trigger as the instructions say? (I find very few people do). I've had 2 die which I put down to poor connections. One a bad/cracked solder joint and the other from having it share power with a cb radio.
Since I've wired +/- straight to the battery triggered by a relay off an ignition circuit (so it doesn't turn on with acc), it's been rock solid for years.
Alternatively if it's dead, buy something else that's not so temperamental.
