Here is my custom built turbo Miata, I fabricated the manifold, charge pipes, coolant pipes, and exhaust. I built this kit last winter and ran a full season of autocross on it, I'll go over the specs later, but first some backstory. I've been a welding for a living almost 10 years and this is my first attempt at anything like this. I've since built 3 more manifolds/turbo kits and have learned a lot, now that the season is over I'm planning to tear it out and rebuild the entire thing better. I'd like to start doing this for a living, I'm planning on building this next one in a way I can reproduce and sell it. Here is my question to you, what would you like to see in a Miata turbo kit that isn't out there? What do you like about the kit I made? What should I change? I figured it would be cool to involve the community in the project, and make something cool that maybe people would want to buy. I understand I went a little too wild with the pie cuts and changing stuff just because I can. My goal is to build something a little bit simpler that can be a bolt on kit.
The current build is on a stock 94 motor with 160,xxx miles, It uses a Garrett GT2560r turbo running 12 PSI, it made 225HP and 215Torque. I'll grab pictures of the dyno sheet next time I'm at my tuners shop. Its a pretty standard Miata set up making pretty standard numbers. Maybe a little more torque than usual?
My plan is to do most of the design on my friends bone stock NB. He wants me to build him a kit and also retain power steering and ac, if it fits his car it will fit my stripped down race car. I plan on changing the manifold to be a top mount turbo design with shorter runner lengths. I'm keeping the same GT2560r turbo but I'm open to suggestions, perhaps an EFR? The charge pipes are aluminum 2” diameter from the turbo and transition to 2.5” about 18” before the throttle body I really like how this improves response and I will probably do the same thing on the new kit. I plan on a 2.5” bell mouth style down pipe I could make a full exhaust system but it seems most kits just include a down pipe? If you want to know more about the current or future kit just ask, i'll provide details and pictures. I'm open to suggestions for any part of this process, and would be willing to start a build post/blog if there's some interest from you lovely people. Once the first 2 kits are built I'd like to be in a position to start a group buy or make a run of kits in the spring or summer of next year.

I'd recommend starting with an intro in the meet and greet section. Engage with the community and read a lot to understand what is already out there. It looks like you have a cool build, so focus on that while you settle in here.

You are likely going to get roasted for this but I will give you where I would go if i had any welding ability.
MKTurbo and Kraken are the cheapest reliable options out there dependent on global location.
Once you get passed these you get the big boy toys from TSE with EFRs and such. You do not have the required track thrashed endurance testing they have completed to be viable up there.
Which leaves you with basically nothing.
Do not be disheartened though.
Absurdflow did manifolds that were exquisite. They also catered for everyone right from the off. Do you have ABS, PS and AC but want to fit that 2871? Its fine.
This is where fabrication gets its legs back. Squeezing kit into a space with all the annoyances still present.
These sorts of questions are very well documented here so I would suggest you look up TurboTim's creations as well as anything the Savington has touched. Emilio is not to be missed either. Its the better part of 150k worth of posts there i reckon but its all about breaking ideas like yours and making them better. Your design is not what most have for reasons contained in those posts.

- A well packaged low mount compatible with ABS, PS and AC is suitable for literally everyone (whether they have those things is irrelevant if you have worked around them) so more likely to sell.
- 2.75" and 3" turbo to cat V-band exhaust. 2.5" is too small for a 1.6 let alone a 1.8 so don't bother.
- IC end tanks for some sizes which have the turbo outlet size for one and the TB inlet for the other.

I see a few questionmarks but the questions are questionable.
efr's are cool. you wouldn't want 2.5" exhaust unless you have a specific reason.
I would redesign the manifold so you don't need to cheat any bends next time, and maybe reduce the amount of 90's you need when you can use a few shorter angle bends to get to the area you want.

I'm gonna be hard pressed to beat the mkturbo price, but I don't think that's what I'm going for. I'm hoping there's a niche in the market for a small fabricator making high quality parts. That's why i'm asking what I can improve and what you guys would like to see if you had the option.

I'd rather a log manifold and a T3 based turbo. That manifold isn't going to live long under hard use.
The price point that this setup would have to hit to make sense is going to slot it in weird no-man's land where nobody is going to buy. Within a few hundred of a Trackspeed setup, way more than MKTurbo, less durable than a Kraken.

Sure a long runner EQ style manifold doesnt live as long but its definitely the most efficient design for making power. There is a lot of competition for sure. TSE and Kraken have great cast manifolds that really dont have any issues with cracking. Why do you prefer a T3 based manifold? The T2 flanged stuff is far better for a Miata IMO, covers all the GT25/28 Garrett turbos and the EFR lineup.
If i want a T2, then i'm getting a Trackspeed manifold. If i don't want a cast manifold, i'm getting a log, because it'll hold together much better.
Unless this setup ALSO fits an EFR (it doesn't), it doesn't really bring any advantages to the market compared to what we already have available to us.

If i want a T2, then i'm getting a Trackspeed manifold. If i don't want a cast manifold, i'm getting a log, because it'll hold together much better.
Unless this setup ALSO fits an EFR (it doesn't), it doesn't really bring any advantages to the market compared to what we already have available to us.

You can get a T25 vband housing instead of the 5 bolt, and even with a 5 bolt how is it gross? He also said he would want to redesign the manifold to accept different turbos such as an EFR. I think its funny that people are ragging on this guy who obviously has some skill in designing a nice kit.

Uhhhhh... Isn't there a concern for possible blow by under high load? Especially in a boosted motor? Doesn't Oil + Hot Manifold = Fire?

V band is cool. Sounds fine. Sounds like more money to put into an outdated turbo that doesn't do anything better than the current hotness which again, i repeat, will not cost much more. And will come with a more durable manifold that has actually be track tested.
I PERSONALLY have zero, literally ZERO interest in a hentai tentacle **** manifold in my car. For any reason. Sure, it might make more power somewhere. It might be more efficient somewhere. If you're making the sort of power where that matters (You're not, i'm not, nobody in this thread is), then it matters. Until then, it's nothing more than a liability.
I'm not ragging on him. Looks like he did a good job in general. I'm simply saying that the kit is going to fall into no man's land and there's not much market for it. At least not on these forums. There's no ragging, let's not perpetuate early 20s millenial-isms, especially when you're the one that threw shade at Lars right off the bat.
