My first turbo miata, pictures n' stuff

So, this is my 3rd turbocharged car, but this is the first one i did myself... overall im proud of it... I am a full time student who gets paid minmum wage, so i tried to go a cheaper route with still some sort of quality, i just couldnt fork out enough for a FM kit, and i didnt really like the begi kits.
My miata is a 94
This kit consists of:
T28 chinacharger from CXracing along with their intercooler (28x7x2.5) and piping (2" hot side, 2.5" cold side) for the 90-93 miata, and a oil line from them as well.
Flyin' Miata manifold and EGR pipe
synapse BOV with anti-stall kit
AEM F/IC - boomslang PnP wire harness
AEM UEGO WO2
autometer boost gauge
2.5" exhaust with no cat

Since CXracing isnt the most reliable company, the turbo same with a 14psi wastegate acuator when it was suppose to be a 8, yippie, but i try to keep it at 10, at 10psi my stock injecotrs are around 95% duty cycle. i will be getting a correct acuator soon.

I bought the car with a 6 puck clutch and heavy pressure plate, racing beat springs and tokico blues, racing beat sway bars, 15" rims, and a single diagonal hard dog roll bar.

I also fabricated a small heat shield for the brake fluid reservoir, and will be making a top part shortly.

I also removed my AC while i was at it, take some weight off, and i dont really like AC, so no use for it IMO.

so did CX racing's intercooler pipe pretty much bolt right up or did you have to modify it?

turboT 07-21-2010 12:22 PM

i had to cut the first one coming from the turbo, the power steering line and bracket were in the way, so with that cut, it went over it. then the first cold side piping, the end was too long, so a few inches were cut off, and the pipe that hooks up to the intake fits fine as long as you remove the AC fan, you have to get creative with the IAC hose.

i go to a shop who bought the CX kit for a 90-93, and it fit right in, with the exception of the downpipe, and the kit pretty much went on flawlessly, but if your going to be using this for a 94-97, id be more than happy to try and get come closer pictures and how you where the cuts were, and how to route it.

Yeah, the AEM F/IC
It fuel/ignition controller, and one of the best piggyback systems

Good looking car! I'm really glad that the fear of chinachargers is fading out and people are using them.

My first car was a 95 honda prelude, and i had it turbocharged and used a t3/t4 hybrid chinacharger, it lasted 5000 miles easily with no shaft play, i sold the car because i wanted RWD, but CXracing doesnt have a bad reputation with their turbos (from what i hear), and the chinachargers are definatly improving.

Clean car, I like the wheels. How do you like the AEM F/IC? I am thinking of getting one for my KA frontier.

The F/IC is ok, i didnt do the tuning, i was able to buy the F/IC for $310, and get it tuned for $85, and right now it is working great, i also used it on my honda, which there were no problems.

well, i didnt use its own sererate sorce, and instead of using the T connecter i used a Y, but it still works just fine, on my honda it was plumbed the correct way, and this setups seems to work better on my miata, the response it quicker.

it's not that it needs it's own separate source, which it does, it's where that source is sourced in proximity to the throttle plate...
