+Clutchnet 3x red PP,
+ACT flywheel - prolite 9.3lbs, Stock FTW,
+KOYO 55mm radiator.

"extended" HDHCDD roll bar or if I find an insurance company that will insure a car w/ a roll cage than I'll go w/ a roll cage,
+Stance coilovers,
some diff. sway bars (have not decided yet),
FM Butterfly brace,
+FM adjustable bushings,

Exterior / Interior
Corbeau Forza buckets - over winter,
+OEM side skirts and mudflaps,
+power everything (was non-power before),

(I'm probably forgetting many things, I'll most likely be adding more)

Here are the photos of the car from day 1 'til today:

I bought my car in July '06, drove it around until March 15, '07.

This is how my car looked like when I just got it:

A month or two later I got rearended:

On March 15th I put it on jack's:

...and my dad backed into the left front fender:

After I put the car on jacstands I took out the differential and sold it to "miataspeed1point6" (the one on top/left is the stock miata diff and the other one is a T2 LSD that I bought from a friend):

I took the fenders, front bumper and hood off:

I bought a "TINY" throttle body for the custom intake manifold I will be making:

I also have a question to all of you, Should I keep the "Twillight Blue Mica" or paint it White or "Galaxy Grey Mica" - as on the Mazda 3?

I'll be updating it as often as I get something new finished.

akthor 05-28-2007 05:43 PM

Not sure but I think I have read that if you have a stand alone ECU like MS you don't need an FPR.

magnamx-5 05-28-2007 05:46 PM

he is using it in a ploy to keep the 255 from over powering his fuel system he already has a return less fuel system anyway ;)

Dhaark 05-28-2007 05:47 PM

The MS will be a complete stand alone - the stock ECU will be removed completely. But I think thaat you still need a FPR to actually regulate the fuel pressure.

The fuel system will be completely new. I won't be using any of the old fuel lines that are on the car right now.

jayc72 05-28-2007 05:53 PM

WTF is with all the snacks and shit in the engine bay?

The TII is a pretty involved swap, good luck.

My brother was helping out and he left everything on the engine like that.
The bags were actually used to put the bolts and nuts in and label where they go. Cocaine (the energy drink) helped out a little to not fall asleep.

magnamx-5 05-28-2007 06:02 PM

Ok. Yess you do very good planning.

ST2udent 05-28-2007 06:23 PM

This is a cool thread. I look forward to update. I'm a big fan of before and after journals

rotaryjunky 05-28-2007 08:08 PM

This car will be a serious beast. My vote is for the "grey".

Dhaark 05-28-2007 08:36 PM

I was thinking about the white, idk how hard it would be to paint miata with galaxy grey myself.

Al Hounos 05-28-2007 09:43 PM

your car's a damned magnet....

samnavy 05-28-2007 09:52 PM

So, whadda ya gonna do with it... other than scare passengers and deflate the ego's of Ferrari owners? I don't see why 350whp is out of the question. Tires? Are we thinking about rolled fender lips...?

Dhaark 05-28-2007 10:04 PM

The plan is: 450whp on race gas and ~400whp on pump, maybe even the 450 will be on pump. idk yet. But i want to run around 15psi on the street at all times and be able to switch to 20psi still on pump gas if needed and about 25psi on race gas

I know. Other cars hate my car and tend to bump it often - the first day someone backed into me on my way back from cinci and cracked the drivers taillight.

magnamx-5 05-28-2007 10:38 PM

For that much hp a mustang TB or other might serve you better than OEM size wich would probably be a restriction past 350 or so whp. GL

As I listed above: my "tiny" TB is a 75mm one but i might get a 50mm mustang one instead.

RusMan 05-29-2007 02:06 AM

Very sick setup dude! Should be an interesting build.

Why do you need sportmaxes in 5lug though? Doing the whole rx7 rear end stuff with the diff?

I'm looking for 5lug sportmax 002's because I have to replace the hubs on the miata to the ones from the tII Rx-7 and i like those wheels - cheap, wide enough for my needs and look good.

My friend is trying to get my car painted for $200 - I have to prepare it for painting (remove all rust, bondo the whole car, all that crap) and they will just spray it for me. We'll see how this goes.

I hope to get most of the stuff done by mid July.

Dhaark 05-30-2007 05:56 PM

I got the radiator out today, which took 5 minutes out of my life.
The engine is coming out on friday and I'm taking it to the machine shop to get it bored and honed on monday!

RusMan 05-30-2007 06:10 PM

Making some progress, very nice. And as far as I know sportmaxes 002 don't come in 5 lug

hustler 05-30-2007 06:14 PM

how big is the intake plenum opening?

They actually do, but noone sells them... you have to order them.

That might be the case, I know I haven't seen any yet.

Dhaark 06-01-2007 08:51 PM

I got the engine out and wil post photos later.
I also found a tranny locally and another job.
The tranny (90k) is $275 picked up w/all 4 hubs (90k) from the t2 rx-7! :)

smoke187 06-03-2007 03:01 AM

Dhaark 06-10-2007 10:39 PM

I just picked up my TII Rx-7 tranny today and a set of TII Calipers, hubs all for $270.

Dhaark 06-23-2007 10:52 PM

I got 2, 12" fans this week, and oil pump, head and main cap studs, ACT prolite flywheel.

RusMan 06-24-2007 01:45 AM

Stocking up...

Dhaark 06-24-2007 01:52 AM

the clutch, pressure plate, radiator are coming this upcoming thursday. The engine is getting machined this monday :)

Dhaark 06-26-2007 11:53 PM

I need help...
Will it sound "ricey" or will it quiet the exhaust down or what will happen?
I want to do a 3" DP, 3" exhaust to a 3" Magnaflow 7"round,34"body I/O - 3", after that do a y-pipe transition to two, 6" round, 14" body, I/O - 3".
I was thinking about putting the 2 rear mufflers in the place of the stock mufler and welding up something that the mufflers wouldn't be the last thing on the exhaust:

===[|||||||]===

= PIPE,
[|||||] muffler

SO tell me what do you guys think and how loud you think it will be.

Thanks

UofACATS 06-27-2007 12:07 AM

With a turbo, it will sound deep and good. Quieter as well, as the exhaust going through the turbo on its way out muffles the sound pretty well.

As for "what I think," you had me right until the two rear mufflers. But, it's your car, one muffler or two, it'll sound great.

UofACATS 06-27-2007 12:12 AM

Also, be sure to throw a wideband on that (bad-ass btw) list.

Good luck, sounds like a great project.

cjernigan 06-27-2007 03:08 AM

Hes going to be running megasquirt, the wideband is def on the list.
I'm not into the resonators on the end, i would like about a foot or more of pipe coming off the back though if you just want them for sound. For weight purposes i would just use the magnaflow though. Easier as well.

Dhaark 06-27-2007 08:14 PM

So you all think I should just use 1 (one) muffler and then just run pipes?

it would be a straight thru Mangaflow 34" body, 7" round, I/O 3"

RusMan 06-27-2007 11:57 PM

Even with one muffler it won't be too loud. I have 3" downpipe into 3" exhaust and into 3" aspec coffee can muffler. It's about 16" long and 6" around, I like the sound, it's loud but not over the top, you can feel the exhaust when flooring it though, haha.

cjernigan 06-28-2007 01:45 AM

My open downpipe is far quieter with a open WG dump than my roommates stock exhaust 1.6 with a focked cat and a resonator in place of the muffler.

Dhaark 07-02-2007 01:35 PM

Just ordered the ACT prolite flywheel which is 9.3lbs and a clutchnet 3x pressure plate and a 6-puck clutch - also from clutchnet (custom made). The flywheel was $280 shipped from nolimit motorsposrts.

Braineack 07-02-2007 03:12 PM

I'm glad I'm not the only one who just lays the shit all over the garage floor.

Dhaark 07-02-2007 05:00 PM

I also put it on the basement floor, which my mom doesn't like but hey, she has half of the garage packed with her stuff and the garage (the whole garage) is for my use and my cars.

Dhaark 07-02-2007 05:05 PM

I drove my friends '06 STi after we converted it back to stock... well mostly stock, it only had a stock DP instead of an NVidia DP and exhaust, but it was fun to drive, you could feel the exhaust when you drove it and it wasn't that loud, 2 cats really quiet the thing down. hahah.

I'm going with a 3" DP, 3" exhaust to a 30" long body, 6" round muffler and 3,5" exhaust tip on each side of the rear bumper.
What do you guys think about this?

honeydesean 07-02-2007 05:55 PM

Why the SC?

A nice garrett ball bearing (say GT35R) would probably fit our smaller motor much better.

Dhaark 07-02-2007 06:43 PM

The SC-50s is the same as the gt35r... but a little cheaper and not BB.

Dhaark 07-03-2007 08:47 PM

Help me find a 50mm Tial BOV (red, BLUE, silver) and a TiAL 38mm wastegate (the wg can be a knockoff)......

Dhaark 07-04-2007 02:36 PM

WHat kind of I/C pipes should I use?
my turbo has a 2.5" outlet, my intercooler has 2.5 or 3" I/O. what should I do? 2.5 hotside, 3" coldside? I have a 4" inlet on my throttle body which actually is a 75mm (3") TB.

TonyV 07-04-2007 03:32 PM

Great project...Subscribed, and wishing the best of luck!!! Esp interested as I am 1/2 way thru getting parts for a diy turbo of my own...NO where near as in depth as yours, but I love these things...

I have a Tial 38mm wg that I should be receiving next week sometime...Brand new/in box, and will be selling as soon as I get it...
Long story short, ordered a bov+wg from the guy, then decided to go w/ gt2560 turbo which has intg wg...

Shoot me a PM if u want, I'm just looking o recoop what it cost, and t was a decent deal....

1 more thing, I wanted to check out the flywheel, but dont see anything but Chevy Cobalt parts on nolimitmotorsports.net website...can u post link, or possible I'm on the wrong site??

Anyway, get back to work on that monester!!!!!:vash:

honeydesean 07-05-2007 11:21 PM

Exactly the reason why it would be better in my opinion.

When do you think you're gonna see full spool on that? 5k?

Anyways, I'll ask some friends of mine that are running a similar setup (except on a DSM) if they have either of those things (BOV & WG) for sale.

cjernigan 07-05-2007 11:25 PM

I think part of the reason for going non-BB was so he could rebuild it on his own if something happened.

Dhaark 07-08-2007 12:14 AM

Chad is always right about my car...

UPDATE!!!!! Finally something going on with my car.
I got rid of the subframes... who needs them? FM said that they make miatas fly so I hope mine will...
THe control arms went out to powder coating (GUNMETAL ish).

So i need new ball-joints (where to order them from??), I ordered FM adjustable bushings (lol). Stance Coilovers, Walbro 225lph HP, Fuel Lab FPR, ACL bearings (i can't find a place that carries Clevite around my place and ACL is supposedly better) - these things are being ordered on teh 13th.

Dhaark 09-16-2007 12:49 PM

UPDATE!!!
I got my control arms back... they have the Super Pro Adjustable bushings from FM. The subframes are painted black using Rust Bullet - 4 layers.
Now I just need some spare time and a few more parts (turbo, WG, a different I/C) and I should be able to put the car back together....
Spare time? haha this is the biggest problem.

I'll post photos of the control arms and subframes later today :)

Zabac 12-11-2007 04:38 PM
