I'm pretty sure hes just joking about using the tape.

Looks fucking great man, really good job. Cant wait to see the finished product.

Are you using MIG or stick on that manifold?

Looks like flux core to me.

JB Weld the Tape FTW!!

:thumbs up:

Those welds are uuuuuugly, haha. I'm all about the ghetto builds, though, so thumbs up from me.

Looking good, but threads like these thrive with pics. More Pics! Where did you get that wastegate? Does it look like a good one?

m2cupcar 09-19-2008 12:02 AM

I keep looking at those pipes and thinking of a hand hammered wok.

Yea, everything has been done with a 110 flux core wire feed. I should have my regs back for the next mani and I'll have gas again. Gotta use flux core on the galvanized though. I've got a heavy breeze / light wind going across for those. Joe's right though, very grinding intensive....

The WG looks like a pretty decent piece. It'ts the first one I've ever seen in person though. (Did I mention I have no prior turbo experience) I though I had the whole EWG setup figured out in my head, then I opened the box and it was twice the size I thought it would be.... It'll be interesting, but I think it'll work.

I'll take a few more pics tomorrow. There's not too much to see yet, but I'll come up with something.

And of course I was kidding about the painters tape. It's just there to hold it for a mock up. I figured you guys would have caught on when I mentioned the WG had a 7psi spring. Everyone knows that painters tape is only good for 3psi. After that you have to use electrical tape. 600v and 12psi.... Sheesh.... Thought I was gunna use painters tape....

Haha Legend!!

Hey hope you don't mind but i'm adding my 5c to your cheap diy thread, so heres my bogan manifold.

It's made so that the turbo sits lower so I can actually close the bonnet

Fits a twinscroll, has had many a happy grinding since then too smoothing out all those lumpy welds that provide all that extra strength!!!!!!!

Shainz 09-19-2008 09:39 AM

The painters tape might just hold about .00001 psi. haha

Toddcod 09-19-2008 11:36 AM

Sweet man. Good job.
You should recieve the redneck build of the year award. I think it is going to work.
Good Luck.
For real though, don't use lowes couplers. I have one right now. It is sagging.
Mabe truck radiator hose??????

Good call Todd.... The Redneck-charger. Perfect. I was wondering what to call it since MarkP took "Ghettocharger" on his high dollar china-charger build....

A few changes to suit the name.... And she's now the Redneck-charger....

That is fucking awesome.

Joe Perez 09-19-2008 01:01 PM

Dude, where the hell did you get a Schlitz can? I haven't seen that stuff in forever!

AlexO35 09-19-2008 01:15 PM

Oh the things I have lying around the garage.....

So I've got the manifold mocked up to trial fit the turbo, but I'm having some issues. I'm sure this is the same dilemma everyone goes through, and I have a feeling there is no real answer. Here it is anyway....

If I top mount the turbo, the compressor is in a nice spot but I'm stuck with a nasty 3-4" radius 90 for the DP.

If I bottom mount, the DP is a straight shot and the EWG has a nice spot on top. but there's a damn radiator hose in the way of the compressor.

So I guess the question is, how big of a deal is the tight radius 90 (which will have to be pie cut) straight off the turbine. Or is there an easy way to get that hose out of the way?

Silly me. I forgot the point of this project. The goal is to make lag first, then worry about it.... On the top she goes....

You can use a 1.8 thermostat cover on the waterpump inlet and reroute the rad hose. (youll need a hosebarb for the mixing manifold)
