The cut wrench is a gotta have for the EGR pipe. I tried too many times with out it.
I was thinking about using a hone of sorts on the insides. We'll see how that pans out.... --Alex |

Good welds man- even penetration.... lol
I made a homemade grinder with steel wire and welded on screws, something like that will make sure all those little steel spatters are cleaned off the inside of the piping and wont eventually get sucked through your engine :-) |
So the weekend went well. Didn't get as much done as I had hoped, but I almost have a downpipe. Its just tacked and taped together at the moment, but I'll post pics tomorrow anyway....

Downpipe pretty well complete. Still need to weld the flange on. I'm going to do that while its in the car to ensure alignment though....

from the previous pictures, that DP turned out pretty nice looking. But I dont know anything about metal work or DP's so my opinion is void.

I love "ghetto" fabs, cuz that's how I roll. ;) But just a suggestion, a flap disc makes great work for final grinding and can give you that smooth polished look without the grinding marks.
Great work..... |
hey, what are you doing for fuel and ignition though? Awesome budget build btw.

Engine management will be MSI parallel. I've already have the COPs installed. I still have to chase down some injectors, but mine should be good for a bit. I have a Godspeed radiator and eBay 12" slim fans in for cooling and an oil cooler on the shelf just in case. Still have to calibrate the OPG though.
I've planned on going turbo for a while, so a lot of supporting mods are already taken care of. Rollbar, FM rails, cooling, suspension, brakes, harnesses, Sparco wheel, lightening, gauges, racing seat.... All that good stuff is done, just waiting on the turbo.... I've slowed down a bit, but it's getting there.... --Alex |
So the project is back on. I didn't make any progress for quite a while. Work has been on and off so the cash hasn't been there to by my new MS. The good news is I met an RX-7 guy over the weekend. Not only did I buy a set of 460's for $10, but I've got his BEGi FMU until I get my next MS. So the build is on again. Been chasing all the little pieces. Just a few more to go and it's assembly time. Pics to come....

Very nice! Glad to hear the build is picking back up again.
Sometimes I really wish I had done like you and done a full on DIY setup. |
Wow, that is making the most of things for sure.
Once it dynos close to 200whp, this build is officially epic. That is a really nice looking DP, I like how you returned it to main flow near the bend where the air is changing direction anyhow. |
Gotta love being able to go boosted for this price. I wouldn't do it myself, since I'm an OEM look and feel freak, but its surely awesome.

Fits well with the New Level of Cheap DIY theme. Good job! |

Just installed the FMU. Headed back to adjust fuel pressure.... --Alex |
