I dont want to just slap a random turbo kit on it and say there.. i want to do it right and need a little help. What all parts would be recommended or what kits are good. Read. Lots of people on here have started with a 1.6 just like you and successfully boosted. Look at their build thread, see what works, and copy.

Since you dont know anything, you need to read other peoples build threads or if budget allows, get a complete kit from flyin miata, it will come with every little thing you need and detailed instructions.
but be warned, it will cost double or triple your cars value.

I started with a 1.6L

My recommendation to you is to sell your car, buy an NB and put a v8 into it.

the end.

What I've done cost 7-8 times my cars value. (which includes the first blown motor and turbo). Don't be like me. Just v8.

I dont necessarily agree with this.
Not every one wants a super high hp miata, most are content with 200-230hp, on a nice and basic turbo setup, that doesnt break things or blows up engines.

for example my turbo bits only cost me about $2-2.5k and my car is hella fun now at 200hp. and i plan to crank it up to 230ish hp and call it a day.

I am a complete noob, i just read MT forums and builds, decided on the parts that i want, found good deals on quality used parts in MT classifieds, and was able to put it all together myself.
and before i turbo my miata, the most extreme mechanic thing i did, ever... was tune up, fluids, and timing belt change.

Now a V8 swap, is not where near as easy to do as a simple turbo kit, it requires much modification and fabrication to accomplish, and much much more expensive.
Yes if you compare a super duper turbo build with all the bells and whistles, it might be about the same money as a v8 swap, but i dont think a noob with zero turbo experience is looking for this kind of build.

If the cost of a turbo setup comes close to an engine swap, go LSx or LFX.

If you can't keep your high hp turbo setup cool and reliable on the track, go LSx or LFX.

If you want people to look around for the nearest muscle car while you drive by, go LSx.

If you don't want to drop >$15k at one time, don't go LSx or LFX.

so the new recommendation to any one wanting a simple low cost boost setup is to go with a $20k V8 setup? nice...

noob: I want to boost my miata, plz help.
mt.net: cheap boost? neah, you are better off dropping $20k, cutting and welding the car, and stuffing a vette into it.
noob: never to be seen again.

Simple low cost solution? FM2 complete kit, or the FM no electric kit and learn to use MS. That's as simple and cheap as it gets for a quality turbo set up.

My suggestion from being around here for a while and picking up a few things:

Pick up a cheap SR20 T25
Get an FM or Artech cast manifold and DP
Ebay Intercooler and Piping
ID injectors
MS3
Somewhat quality BOV

Then be happy with 200-220HP. The issues start when people start going past the 250 HP mark and they start replacing everything piece by piece and it ends up costing more than just doing a full LS swap. So my advice is pick your goals and go from there.

1. sr20 turbo
2. eBay or FM manifold
3. Ebay intercooler
4. ms3
5. rx8 injectors
6. Have fun
