OIL PUMPS GALORE!!! Machining
I was still thinking you MIGHT be able to so a small lift. It wouldn't be fun though.
You know, the worst part about this, I might be in for another set of pistons since I might as well pull the block now.

Hey I just came across this when I was at work. Am I to late to jump on the train? I speed read through both posts but just wanted to make absolutely sure that I am not going to end up with a $150 paper weight. I have a 1997 with the 1.8, if my oil pump is to specs will these gears work?
tooth tip clearance
standard: 0.02-0.18mm {0.0008-0.0070 in}
maximum: 0.2 mm {0.0079 in}
Outer rotor-to-pump body clearance
standard: 0.09-0.18mm {0.0036-0.0070}
maximum: 0.2 mm{0.0079 in}
side clearance
standard: 0.03-0.12 mm {0.0012-0.0047 in}
maximum: 0.14 mm {0.0055 in}
I have not yet ripped apart the engine since I am not quite ready for the rebuild but I would like to get in on the group buy if it will work for me.

Haha, whata marketeer. I ordered 50 and I think there is only 47 or so orders. Once I get to 50 thats the cutoff. I'm not making money and it takes a while to ship 50 of these things. The QC process is to actaully drop each machined gear into an oil pump housing and check for clearences as well as use a bit of lapping compound if resistance is felt on rotation. They are built to perform.
Just so I am clear, the short nose pump is the only one that is different, the 94-97, and 99+ pumps are the same? Because I have a 96 engine, and 01 head, and am currently using a 96 pump, but want to make sure if I buy these gears, that the 96 pump is what I "should" be going with. If so, I'm in.
Yes the 96 pump is in this group. THe only other other pump is the one that's in the brand new mazdas. In ford they call it a duratec, I'm not sure what the codename in mazda is.
